  • Customer Service Part 1: The Cornerstone of a Sales Career
    Sep 20 2023

You can't cover sales without talking about customer service. It's one of the foundational elements to finding success and longevity because good customer service can have your customers come to you rather than you always having to chase them down!

Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward discuss what customer service looks like in each of their industries as well as some principles that hold true no matter what kind of sales you are in. They talk about the Biblical principle of "Second Mile Service" and why customer service should be especially valuable to salespeople who want their careers to honor Jesus.

  • Expert vs. Generalist... What makes for a better sales career?
    Sep 6 2023

We're back for season 2 of Sales Therapy! Hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward continue their discussions about the intersection of faith, family, and finding success in sales careers. In this week's episode we talk about one of the fundamental debates of the sales industry... should I become an expert in a narrow field or be competent across a lot of different areas?

We start by defining and giving examples of what it means to be an expert vs. a generalist then move in to discussing the pros and cons of each. Jonathon and Lanier share stories from their careers and from people they know in sales and give an overview of what it might look like to build your career down each path.

  • For Richer or For Poorer
    May 3 2023

Sure, the ceiling is really high... but how about the floor? This is the last session of Season 1, but we look forward to being back soon with season 2! Please continue to rate and review the podcast and share it with anyone you know that could use some Sales Therapy!

  • Made For This
    Apr 5 2023

Jonathon has been told "You should be in sales!" for as long as he can remember. Lanier... hasn't. Is there a particular personality type that's best suited for sales? Can I learn to be good at it or do I have to be born with it?

This week, hosts Jonathon Post and Lanier Ward discuss what makes a good salesperson. Every company seems to have their own personality assessment that they use to label you and find the right place for you. So is it as simple as "extroverts belong in sales and introverts don't?" That's not the way we see it. There are some natural qualities that make finding success in sales a little easier, but there's no substitute for hard work and perseverance. Even if you do have the "you should be in sales!" personality, that's not enough to make you successful.

Jonathon and Lanier also dive in to 1 Corinthians 12 and talk about how God's design for each person is intentional and unique. It's much better to spend your time identifying and sharpening your gifts instead of wishing you had someone elses!
