Hello and welcome to Episode 29 of That Yoga Woman’s Podcast. A podcast where yogis, yoga teachers and studio owners share stories of their lives on and off the mat.
I’m Jules Buchanan, a yoga teacher and your host.
This week I’m talking to Peter Eyre.
Peter is another of my guests based in the north east - in fact I need to share that I actually work for him at the new Hotpod he’s set up with his partner Allie, up here in the lovely town of Morpeth.
Having made the decision to take on a Hotpod franchise just before the start of the pandemic, their timing hasn’t made this an easy process so I’ll find out how he’s managed to secure a space and set up a new yoga studio during multiple lockdowns. I’ll also be asking him what working as a franchisee has been like and why he and his partner decided to go down that route, rather than establish their own studio and brand.
Prior to teaching yoga, Peter was a headteacher and he made the decision to leave his educational career to start his yoga business so I’ll find out how easy that decision was for him and his partner (Allie is still a headteacher) as well as what the pros and cons are of managing a school. I’ll also be asking him how his career progressed to that point and whether he’d always wanted to be a teacher from the start of his working life.
Outside of work and yoga Peter was born in Zambia (of all places) and was really into sports in a competitive way when he was younger - we’re talking county level for rugby, swimming and even pole vault! Nowadays, he has a passion for surfing and loves being part of the surf community in the area. Yes, there’s apparently more people than just Peter that loves going out in the freezing cold of the water off the north east coast to enjoy the waves! I’ll be asking him more about that, as well as how yoga combines with surfing. I’m also interested to know what first led him to yoga sessions.
On top of this he’s also into interiors (aren’t we all to a certain extent?) but Peter and Allie are another level -  their current house (which is on the beach in Cambois) will be featured in this month’s Good Homes magazine…amazing!
So, I think you’ll agree there’s lots of ground to cover….I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Peter through Instagram; @hotpodyogamorpeth or by emailing him at morpeth@hotpodyoga.com  If you’ve got any questions for him I’m sure he’d be happy to answer them.
His Savasana Sounds are Apricots by Bicep as well as the classic Inner City Life by Goldie.

Hello and welcome to Episode 28 of That Yoga Woman’s Podcast. A podcast where yogis, yoga teachers and studio owners share stories of their lives on and off the mat.
I’m Jules Buchanan, a yoga teacher and your host.
This week I’m talking to Sidonie Graham.
Sidonie (or Sid as she is known) is born and raised in my new neck of the woods in the North East. We met through working together at our new local hotpod in Morpeth and I heard that Sid is into rock climbing. Turns out thats a bit of an understatement (she won the British Mountaineering Youth Championships at the tender age of 13) so I’ll be asking her to share more about her love of climbing, when it started, where it came from and also where it has taken her so far! I read that she had wanted to be a professional climber so I’ll find out if that is still on her radar and what her life would look like if she achieved that goal.
As well as finding out about her yoga journey so far (she qualified to teach in 2019 after studying in India) I’ll also be asking Sid what her teaching life was like pre-pandemic, how the pandemic affected her work, and whether she has plans to change what her yoga business looks like now that restrictions are starting to ease up, and face to face teaching is resuming. Sid, like many of us, teaches at a number of local studios as well as specialised yoga for climbers sessions at a local climbing centre.
Sid is also, like many of us, worried about the impact of climate change so I’ll ask her to share her views on that, as well as asking her for info on some of her favourite local haunts that I can explore.
I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Sid through her Instagram; @northern_soul_yoga If you’ve got any questions for her I’m sure she’d be happy to answer them.
Her Savasana Sounds is a track by Triangles in the Mist called Green Depths - there are 3 4ish minute tracks and then an extended 20 minute version, so have a little listen and let her know what you think!   Support Enjoyed listening? Hello and welcome to Episode 27 of That Yoga Woman’s Podcast. A podcast where yogis, yoga teachers and studio owners share stories of their lives on and off the mat.
I’m Jules Buchanan, a yoga teacher and your host.
This week I’m talking to Kirsty Elliot.
Kirsty is based down in Dorset and is founder of The Yoga Within. She runs weekly classes in local villages…places like Berwick St John, Motcombe, Fontmell Magna and Iwerne Minster - they sound so picturesque don’t they! She’s also, like many of us, continuing her online classes for the time being via zoom so I’ll be asking what her thoughts are on that and the future of online yoga classes. As well as weekly classes, Kirsty runs monthly workshops at an old redeveloped mill space and participates in an annual festival in Shaftesbury, which brings yoga, pilates and qi-gong for free to the local community over the summer in conjunction with the local council. I’m interested to hear more about how that came about and understand whether it is something that other yoga teachers might be able to replicate in their local area.
As well as being a busy yoga teacher with a thriving business (her classes are fully booked every week) Kirsty is a married Mum of two young children and has 3 dogs so I’ll be asking her how she finds running her business alongside her family commitments.
Kirsty predominantly teaches Dru Yoga (alongside yoga nidra) and this isn’t something I know much about so I’m keen to understand more about what her classes are like. Kirsty is also a reiki master so, as well as finding out more about how she got into yoga and subsequently became a teacher…I’d also like to know when she started reiki and how she blends the two areas together.
She’s also really into horses - I’m not sure how else you’d say that without it sounding a bit odd but I read that she was a professional horse rider and last year she worked with her local Riding for the Disabled Association to develop yoga sessions with horses which were a great success so I’ll ask her what that was like too.
I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Kirsty through her website www.theyogawithin.co.uk or through her Facebook page @theyogawithin
Her Savasana Sounds is a track by Ashana called Ave Maria and she also loved Jack Johnson’s version of Imagine.

Hello and welcome to Episode 26 of That Yoga Woman’s Podcast. A podcast where yogis, yoga teachers and studio owners share stories of their lives on and off the mat.
I’m Jules Buchanan, a yoga teacher and your host.
So, episode 26! I just want to say before I introduce this my guest that that’s a year of podcasting!Thank you so much to all of my interviewees and of course to you guys for listening. If you enjoy the podcast, please can you take a moment to rate it, write a review and subscribe (if you listen through Apple or Spotify etc) as this really helps other people find my podcast and gives me a warm and fuzzy glow as well. So - thank you’s done - let’s crack on with the episode!
This week I’m talking to Kelly Hopkinson.
Kelly is based in Milton Keynes and says she’s many things to many people, which is, I think, something a lot of us can relate to. If we rewind, travelling took up much of Kelly’s 20’s so we’ll find out more about what that entailed.
She then jumped heart first into being a primary school teacher so I’ll be asking her what that life was like and how that career path was for her. Becoming a single, working mum of 2 girls wasn’t part of the plan, yet it became one of her life defining moments so I’ll definitely be asking her more about that and the impact that this has had on her.
Kelly is a now a yoga and mindfulness teacher, establishing the Be:Well Club which is a monthly membership of weekly yoga classes, on demand content and wellness tools to make life a little easier.
I also want to talk to Kelly about her public speaking, after she did a TedxTalk in 2018 on self-care which has racked almost 114k views on YouTube! Pretty awesome.
A chat with Kelly wouldn’t be complete without asking about her friendship and kind of almost sisterhood with Christine Blair (from Episode 6 of this podcast). They’ve got such support for each other, championing each other and working together - it really is an inspiration.
Oh, and Kelly is also owner to one of the cutest kittens in the world, Dave, so I’ll be asking her to share some of his antics with her as he’s been featuring of her online yoga classes for her students!
I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Kelly by emailing her on hello@kellyhopkinsonyoga.co.uk and she’s on Insta and Facebook as @kellyhopkinsonyoga. This week I’m talking to Chelsea Haden.
Chelsea’s handle (if that’s the right word) on Insta is loving life in wellies and it looks like that’s certainly what she’s doing! Scrolling through her insta there’s loads I want to ask her about…her gorgeous SUPing Labrador for starters. There’s lots of walking, woods, water and of course yoga, all in the fantastic backdrop of the Welsh wilds of north Wales. Chelsea is based in the Ceiriog valley (not really sure where that is but I’ll find out) and is teaching a mix of indoor classes as well as outdoor yoga sessions over the summer. Like many of us, Chelsea is moving back to in person classes so I’ll be asking her how she feels about that now that we are slowly coming out of restrictions.
She also combines guided walking and wild swimming with yoga for her retreats so I’ll find out more about her love of walking and swimming (as well as kayaking and SUP), her favourite places to go and her passion for sharing yoga, walking and swimming with others.
It’s clear that Chelsea is fond of slow and seasonal living, but also embracing the outdoors and the associated adventures that come with that so I’ll be asking what that combination means in reality and the impact of that ethos or way of living has on her day to day life. She’s also got a menagerie of pets including her lab, a cat and some chickens. I want to know if and how they all get along…!
Born and raised in urban Manchester I’ll ask Chelsea what her childhood was like and then what city life was like for her in her late teens and early 20s. How did she make the transition to a completely different pace of life in the Welsh countryside? You’ll just have to listen on to find out…
I hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Chelsea through her social media channels. She’s @LovingLifeInWelliesYoga on Facebook and @LovingLifeInWellies on Instagram.
Her Savasana Sounds is music by Fred Westera who can be found on Spotify so be sure to check him out and let Chelsea know what you think!    Support Enjoyed listening? May 24 2021
This week I’m talking to Caron Lindley.
Caron is based in Crick in Northamptonshire and is the founder of Red Hat Yoga and Wellbeing which she started in 2014. (I’ll definitely be finding out where the red hat comes from, don’t worry!)
She’s been teaching 5 classes a week as well as one to ones, hosting courses, events and retreats before the pandemic so I’ll find out whether she has continued with teaching online, and where her yoga business is leading her now that things are starting to ease. To give you a hint, Caron is specialising in yoga, coaching and Ayurveda now with her clients so I’ll be asking her more about that area of the business and why Ayurveda is important to her.
Caron’s been practising yoga since her teens so we’ll be finding out how and where she started as well as discovering more about her yoga journey and what led her to teaching. She says she started more and more to live yoga from the inside out…sound familiar? So I’ll find out more about that as well as her life before yoga (I should coin that LBY) where she was a marketing guru.
Her students appreciate her slower, gentle approach and I’ll be asking Caron about this and her passion for more mindful and restorative styles of yoga.
I also read that Caron has a passion for camper vans so I’ll ask her about her new van, which is being built as we speak, what drew her to van life and where she’s planning on going.
I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…
Listeners, you can contact Caron about her Vibrant Living Coaching programme and to arrange a complementary mini Ayurvedic Lifestyle coaching session on 07786 911593, caron@redhatyoga.co.uk or via facebook @caronlindley or her facebook business page – Red Hat Yoga    Support Enjoyed listening? • 23: Rachel Wilkinson
    May 10 2021
This week I’m talking to Rachel Wilkinson.
Rachel Wilkinson is based down in Dorset and discovered yoga in 2008. In her LBY (Life Before Yoga), she used mental health services for support with her addition to alcohol and drugs. Rachel was introduced to using yoga and talking therapy to aid her recovery (and to help with the grief of losing her Mum). I want to warn you at this point that this is quite an emotional one. Development of a yoga practice led to her experiencing a profound change in her mental health and helped with her battle against her addictions. After learning so much from her own experiences, she moved into working in mental health services with and supporting those in a similar position the one she was once in.
It was during this time in 2015 that she qualified as a yoga teacher with the aim of spreading the benefits to those individuals accessing services and others, who wouldn’t easily find themselves on a yoga mat.
Rachel created RawYogi to work with a blend of healing therapies to support people wanting to navigate the modern world more effectively. She uses sound and movement, body and breathwork to encourage and facilitate change so I’ll be asking her to explain a little more about how she does that, as well as about how her rawsome retreats are looking for 2021/2022 (that’s right, I said rawsome!)
In 2018 Rachel founded CYC Community Yoga Collective which is a grassroots not for profit community project making wellbeing accessible for all, whilst valuing the skills of teachers, facilitators and therapists. It is that that is key for me…She aims to build community from the ground up which sounds fabulous so I’ll be asking her to share some more information about how this initiative works, how it’s been working during covid, and what her plans for the future are and how we can help.
As I said earlier, this is an emotional one and its also a bit sweary so buckle up! I really hope you enjoy listening to our conversation…   Rachel shared a few tracks with me after the podcast for her Savasana Sounds and she also has a playlist on Spotify that she is happy to share.
    • Blue Lullaby by BE
    • Red Light by Gaussuan Curve
    • Beginnings (feat East Forest) by MC Yogi
    • Dunes by Chequerboard
Have a little listen to them and see what you think!
Listeners, please let Rachel know what you thought of the podcast - you can reach her by emailing rachel@communityyogacollective.org or visit her website www.communityyogacollectve.org (yes, that’s org, people!)  If you’ve got any questions for her or would like to get involved with CYC I’m sure she’d love to hear from you.    Support Enjoyed listening? Apr 26 2021
This week I’m talking to Rosie Lawson.
I was actually introduced to Rosie from a previous interviewee from the podcast, Eva Paterson from Episode 9, so I’m looking forwards to getting to know Rosie during this conversation. She works with Eva and teaches at her studio space, Choose You Yoga and Wellness Hub, in Livingston, Scotland. As well as teaching yoga, Rosie is a coach and has a women’s membership group all about self development and self care incorporating coaching, yoga pranayama, meditation and all the tools we use to manage our lives.
In her LBY (Life Before Yoga), she worked in corporate medical sales for 25 years. This was a high stress job, so we’ll find out more about what that entailed and what led Rosie towards teaching yoga and becoming a coach. Prior to her career in medical sales, Rosie was also an intensive care nurse so she was very much used to working in adrenaline fuelled, high stress situations. I’ll ask her more about where she worked and what that life was like.
I know that Rosie went through a period of feeling burnt out and lost so I’m hoping she’ll be kind enough to share what that experience was like for her and how she navigated her way out of those feelings to maintain a focus on her goal of helping others.
Rosie also runs teacher training and has hosting breathing and relaxation meditation sessions online so I’ll find out more about this and how she has managed her business through the pandemic as well as what things look like for her going forwards.
I really hope you enjoy listening to my conversation with Rosie…     Rosie shared her favourite Savasana Sound and it was The Devi Prayer, but we’ve had that before (it was bound to happen) so she also suggested listening to the theme from the film Gladiator…I’m definitely giving that one a go.  Have a little listen to that and see what you think!
