• Small Groups: The Biblical Foundation - Part 2 (Acts 2:42-47)
    Mar 13 2025

It's exciting to be a part of a growing church, but we can also face growing pains: becoming focused on buildings and activities over relationships. People can visit for weeks and not make a connection. That’s a problem in light of the fact that we have God-given needs for love, acceptance and significance (with God and with one another).

    Interesting Church Study:

    1. 85% of those who joined the average church will not be there a year later.
    2. 90% of new members would stay in church if they:
      1. Made 4-8 close friendships within the church
      2. They belong to a fellowship group
      3. They can articulate their faith

If we want a New Testament church experience, there isn’t a better place to begin than Acts 2:42-47, which provides insight into the life of the early church!

In Hawaii, the term 'ohana means family. The term Ohana Fellowship is another way for describing the Small Group experience.

  • The Rapture - Part 2 (I Thessalonians 4:13-18)
    Mar 6 2025

If you have lived for any length of time, you have had to bury someone you love. You have felt the sting of regret, the sorrow of unfinished business, the paralyzing confusion and the emptiness of loss. You have probably also found your mind flooded with questions about life beyond the grave.

In 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 we read the words of Paul as he addressed some of these same concerns in the church at Thessalonica. The very first generation of Christians was beginning to die. Most of these people had believed that Jesus would return during their lifetime. Now, they had questions:

    • Did death mean those who died would miss the Second Coming of Christ and His reign on the earth?
    • Would these people miss all the glory that had been promised?

This text not only answers some of those questions – it also contains one of the outstanding eschatological (end times) passages in the New Testament.

  • Redeeming the Time - Part 2 (Ephesians 5:15-17)
    Feb 27 2025

Time is one of the most precious resources we have! God created time and gives it to us as stewards. If we don't purposefully order our time, we will find that we have no time to do what is important and will barely have the time to do what is pressing.

We need to order our time according to God's purposes and values and unapologetically subject everything that falls outside of this to the back burner.

Eph 5:15-17 “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time [making the most of every opportunity - NIV], because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” NKJV

Redeem = Exagorazo = “To buy up, to ransom, to rescue from loss or captivity”

  • My Eyes Are on You - Part 2 (2 Chronicles 20:1-30)
    Feb 20 2025

How do you respond in moments of crisis?

Pastor Bob teaches an inspiring message on Jehoshaphat, who although he was an accomplished king, freely admitted he didn't know what to do in crisis, but his eyes were on God and His deliverance.

    Jehoshaphat:

    1. Fourth king of the separate kingdom of Judah
    2. The son of Asah: bright lights against the dark paganism that existed during their time.
    3. 35 years old when he became king, and he reigned 25 years in Jerusalem
    4. "His heart was devoted to the ways of the Lord" 2 Chr. 17:6
    5. He abolished pagan idolatry
    6. He sent teachers to the people to teach them God's Word. 2 Chron 17:9
    7. He turned the hearts of the people back to the Lord.

    Crisis:

    1. A massive invasion mounted by the Moabites, and Ammonites, and Meunites (From beyond the sea, meaning the Dead Sea, where Sodom had stood).
    2. They were already at En Gedi -- which was only about 38 miles from Jerusalem.

We must remember that although Satan's name is infrequently mentioned in the Old Testament, he and his legions had stirred up the hearts of this vast army to bring the work of God in Judah to a bloody conclusion.

We can learn important lessons from how Jehoshaphat responded to his country's crisis. (2013)
