    Conservationists Bex Band and Catherine Edsell have teamed up to launch the Ocean Advocate Summit on 1 Feb 2025, a one-day summit offering the chance to reconnect to the ocean, discover more about marine life and the threats they face. This event is for swimmers, surfers, sea-lovers, artists, educators and anyone else who loves the ocean.

    Bex and Catherine will be familiar names to anyone involved in the UK outdoors and adventure world. Bex Band is the founder of Love Her Wild, a not for profit encouraging women to embrace the outdoors and one of the largest outdoor communities worldwide. Catherine Edsell is a global expedition leaders and founder of the Matriarch Adventure as well as a previous guest on the show - you can find out more about her and her work in Season 1 Ep 16

    This conversation explores the motivation behind the summit and what visitors can expect on the day.

  • IG LIVE: 52 miles 24 Hours - Paddling Bournemouth to Kimmeridge Return for Diabetes UK

    On 27th December 2024, surfers Chris Howard and Craig Sharp left Bournemouth Pier on a 52 mile prone paddling endurance challenge, aiming to raise awareness and funds for Diabetes UK whilst paying tribute to those who tirelessly manage their diabetes every day. The event tested every element of their capabilities, relying on their physical and mental stamina to combat the cold and ever-changing conditions. To add to the complexity half of the journey was conducted in the hours of darkness.

    This is the audio from an Instagram LIVE interview that was conducted with Chris and Craig on 23rd Dec 24, a few days prior to the event. During the conversation, they share their motivation for the challenge, the planning involved and their hopes for the day. It will be followed in a couple of weeks by a post-event interview where they will share what actually happened!

  • Rites of Passage - Israh Goodall

    Motivated by a desire to explore and connect with people and wild places, Israh Goodall is a qualified Mountain Leader who is trained in Outdoor Environmental Education and who has travelled and hosted programmes all over the world. This has included travelling the Silk Road, trekking in New Zealand, the Middle East, Central America and Europe, and the Pacific Crest Trial (from Mexico to Canada). Israh has particular interests in Rites of Passage work and runs a nature-based mentoring programme for teenage girls. As a trained midwife she has worked with remote tribes in the Afar region of Ethiopia and in Zanzibar’s government and bush hospitals.

    In this episode, Israh shares her passion for adventures and how they lead us to feeling awake and present in our lives. We discuss her work around rites of passage, in particular for teenage girls and how we can support them in transition from child to adult - and what we can learn from them too.

    This episode is part of the a mini series with Adventure Mind - a collaboration of researchers, practitioners and organisations in the outdoor adventure space. Adventure Mind offers a grant, an annual conference and access to resources and evidence to support adventure practice.

    Each episode shines a light on a current/ former speaker at the Adventure Mind Conference, their reasons for being involved and the benefits they have personally experienced from living life adventurously.
