Brilliant

Mike Duncan is both an expert and an enthusiast, a rare but essential combination in any great teacher. The History Of Rome is both informative and very interesting not to mention beautifully narrated by the author. Listened twice! MD’s French Revolution too made very compelling listening. This is history brought alive and you don’t have to be academic to enjoy and learn. Brilliant.

Perfectly executed

A full run down of Rome, from its founding to the finish of the empire. Duncan manages to capture all of this history without the tidiuim of many on the subject. This straightforward narrative combinded with entertaining commentary at times, makes for an enjoyable listen. Only a few podcasts or audio books have got me to listen twice, here I am on my third listen. Definitely check it out!

The origin of podcasting.

I started getting into Roman history, and decided to give this podcast on the subject a listen. It is a masterclass of its own, and there is a reason both the podcast and Mike Duncan is universally revered. I have also listened to his other podcast ‘Revolutions’, and bought both his books on Audible. All absolutely fantastic listens. He has a calm, yet engaging voice and speaking pattern, and he writes in a beautifully somehow biased yet mostly objective way. He focuses on the people, and elaborating and expanding the world he tells of, rather than dull straight fact’s history. I adore this man, and this podcast started it all. This podcast is a gateway into being interested in history, period.

Both a salve and a warning

This well-told history of Rome gathers all the detail and nuance of a distant history in a knowing, often humorous but always relatable telling, casually but carefully delivered. I love this series.

The Classic History Podcast

Relaxed, expressive and definitive. Only Dan Carlin compares in making history come alive like this.
