  • Hertfordshire- The Murder of Stephen Varley
    Aug 7 2024

On Sunday December the 19th 1948, the body of a man was discovered in the shadow of Sopwell Nunnery in St Albans, Hertfordshire. He had been savagely beaten and left without his trousers or jacket. An extensive police investigation yielded plenty of sightings of the man, and of potential suspects and yet no one was ever caught and the case remains unsolved.

Still on the fence

I like the fact that the story sounds factual and non exploitative. But the guitar... no, no, no, sorry.

Beautiful guitar music!

Haunting, sober and non-exploitative true crime podcast. Excellently researchered, narrated and produced. Good sense of place too, giving it an almost psychogeographical feel. The guitar music and the host's quiet, restrained delivery give the episodes a suitable air of melancholy and loss.

Very thorough.

I enjoy listening to these podcast as the detail is good. You get a good sense of where it happened and a feel for the area and the people involved. I very much enjoy listening, even when the circumstances are extremely tragic. The true story gives respect to those who have suffered, usually the families of the deceased and innocent bystanders. Please continue with these podcasts.

That guitar intro is so ridiculous I

The guitar intro and throughout the story's is absolutely hideous. Good story's but very scripted and ruined with that guitar had to turn off after a few episodes!
