Season 2 Episode 7 "Doomed To Die"

Episode Written by J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay and Justin Doble

    Episode Directed by Charlotte Branstrom

    Episode 7 Synopsis

In peaceful Eregion Celembrimbor happily toils away at the nine rings of power for mortal men. But he notices signs that he is trapped in an illusion. He confronts Annatar, who ends the illusion and reveals that Celebrimbor has made the nine rings using Sauron's blood rather than mithril.

Needing support to take on Adar’s army, Elrond comes to Khazad-dûm and asks Prince Durin to send aid to Eregion. Durin agrees and inspires the Dwarfs to rise up to stand side by side with the elves. But when his father King Durin attacks his own men, Prince Durin calls off his support of Eregion to defend Khazad Dûm.

Elrond, Gil-galad, and the Elves of Lindon arrive at Eregion to attack the Uruk army. But Adar reveals his prisoner, Galadriel, stopping them in their assault as they discuss terms but Adar only offers an ultimatum to Elrond. Galadriel will only be exchanged for her ring of power, Nenya. But Elrond refuses to give up the ring. He bids farewell to Galadriel, kissing her to cover up the lockpick he secretly passes to her.

That night, Galadriel escapes with the help of Arondir, who has arrived in Eregion after following the trails left by the Uruks'. And they both sneak into the city of Eregion. Celebrimbor attempts to escape with the nine rings and finds Galadriel. Celebrimbor insists that Galadriel take the nine rings far away from Eregion while he stays to delay Sauron from getting his hands on them.

Meanwhile Adar sends wave after wave of Uraks to their death to break through the city walls of Eregion. Glûg, his closest supporter, pleads with him to call a retreat. But with a glimmer of victory in sight, Adar sends in Damrod the Hill Troll who sacrifices even more Uruks in his assault on Eregion’s wall. He is attacked by Elrond, Arondir and High King Gil Galad, who working together, fell the Troll just in time.

As the sun rises, a small number of Elves outside the city are faced with a new wave of Uruks led by Adar. Elrond and his small force held out all night but when Prince Durin does not arrive to support them, their group are overwhelmed. Arondir tries to attack Adar but he is cut down and left for dead.

Adar confronts the heartbroken Elrond and takes Nenya from him with ease as Celebrimbor is left to face Sauron alone.

Welcome back fellow Ringers we are back to discuss The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episodes 5 and 6. We will be spoiling everything about these episodes in this podcast.

The Rings Of Power Season 2 Episode 5 and 6 Details

Season 2 Episode 5 "Halls of Stone"

    Episode Written by Nicholas Adams

Episode Directed by Sanaa Hamri and Louise Hooper

Season 2 Episode 6 “Where Is He?”

    Episode directed by Sanaa Hamri

    Episode written by Justin Doble

Series showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

Episode 5 "Halls of Stone" Synopsis

Dwarven King Durin III uses one of the new Rings of Power to help rebuild the Dwarves' infrastructure and bring sunlight back to Khazad-dûm. The ring also makes him uncharacteristically greedy, and he dismisses a warning from Disa that they could be awakening something evil that lives beneath the mines.

In Eregion, Annatar insists that they start work on Rings of Power for Men but Celebrimbor refuses to be involved. When Durin IV expresses his concerns about the Dwarven rings to Celebrimbor, Annatar suggests that the negative impacts are being caused by Celebrimbor lying to Gil-galad about making more rings. Celebrimbor agrees to help make rings for Men in an attempt to redeem his work on the Dwarven rings.

The new king of Númenor, Ar-Pharazôn, tasks his son Kemen with cracking down on members of the Faithful who remain loyal to Míriel. Kemen interrupts a memorial service that members of the Faithful are holding, leading to a fight with Isildur's friend Valandil that ends with Kemen killing him. Isildur's father Elendil is blamed for starting a riot and arrested.

After witnessing the waiting hordes at Eregion, Elrond returns to Lindon and warns the high king Gil-galad of the impending attack.

Episode 6 “Where Is He?” Synopsis

In Eregion, Celebrimbor focuses on making rings for Men. Annatar offers to take care of the city's administration and gives him a container which he claims to hold mithril.

Outside the city, Adar tells Galadriel that the crown of Sauron's master, Morgoth, was able to destroy Sauron's previous physical form. He believes that together, the crown and the Elven Rings of Power could destroy Sauron for good.

In Númenor Elendil refuses to pledge his loyalty to Ar-Pharazôn and is sentenced to trial by abyss, in which he would be thrown into the sea to face a giant creature, the Sea Worm and the judgment of the Valar. Queen Regent Míriel claims the right to be tried in Elendil's stead; the Sea Worm spares her life and the Faithful hail her as the "Queen of the Sea".

Meanwhile in Rhun, Tom Bombadil takes the Stranger to a forest of dead trees where he is meant to find his true staff. The Stranger has a vision of Nori and Poppy being threatened by the Dark Wizard and must decide between helping his friends and fulfilling his destiny.

Outside the gates of Eregion, Galadriel realizes that Sauron has lured Adar's army there because he does not have an army of his own but Adar ignores her concerns and begins the Siege of Eregion.

Episode 3 "The Eagle and The Sceptre" Synopsis

Though Isildur is presumed dead in the eruption of Mount Doom, his horse Berek finds him alive in a nest of giant spiders and helps him escape.

On his way to Pelargir, an old Númenórean colony, Isildur comes across a young woman named Estrid who secretly bears Adar's brand. They are attacked by Wild Men who steal Berek, and are saved by the Elf Arondir who is grieving the loss of Bronwyn, the woman he loved.

Bronwyn's son, Theo, dismisses Arondir's attempts to comfort him and offers to help Isildur steal Berek back. As they are doing this, Theo and the Wild Men are captured by something unknown.

In Númenor, Isildur's sister Eärien causes outrage when she reveals that Queen Regent Míriel has been using an Elvish palantír (crystal ball). A Great Eagle arrives at Míriel's coronation—following the death of her father, King Tar-Palantir—and Lord Belzagar, a supporter of Míriel's cousin Pharazôn, claims that this is a sign of support for Pharazôn.

Back in Eregion, Celebrimbor and Annatar ask the Dwarves for mithril so they can make more Rings of Power. King Durin III provides it, despite Durin IV's distrust of Annatar.

    Episode 4 “Eldest” Synopsis

Elrond and Galadriel set out for Eregion. They come to a bridge that has been destroyed by lightning and are forced to take a more dangerous path.

Meanwhile in the lands of Rhun, The Stranger meets a mysterious man named Tom Bombadil while Nori and Poppy find a community of halflings called Stoors. They learn that the Harfoots are descended from a Stoor who left Rhûn in search of the Sûzat, a place of green hills that he dreamed could be the home of halflings.

Back in Pelargir, Arondir deduces that Estrid is one of the Wild Men. She earns back Isildur's trust when he and Arondir are sucked into a mud pit inhabited by a nameless creature and she helps free them. They are confronted by two Ents who captured Theo and the Wild Men in retribution for the felling of trees by Adar's army of Orcs. Arondir promises to protect the forest and the Ents free their prisoners; one of the Wild Men is Hagen, Estrid's betrothed.

As the Elves continue their journey to Eregion they fight off Barrow-wights in the Barrow Lands and Elrond and Galadriel find Adar's army. Galadriel gives her ring to Elrond and tells him to return to Lindon to warn High King Gil-galad. Galadriel stays to hold off the Orcs and allow the rest of the elves to escape but is captured by Adar.

Season 2 Episode 1 "Elven Kings Under The Sky"

    Episode Written by Gennifer Hutchison

    Episode Directed by Charlotte Brändström

Season 2 Episode 2 “Where The Stars Are Strange”

Episode directed by Charlotte Brändström and Louise Hooper

    Episode written by Jason Cahill

Series showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

Episode 1 "Elven Kings Under The Sky" Synopsis

At the dawn of the Second Age, the Dark Lord Sauron is seemingly killed by an army of Orcs and their leader, Adar, but his spirit endures and forms a new body over thousands of years.

Taking the name "Halbrand", he helps the Elves forge three Rings of Power before his identity is revealed.

High King Gil-galad believes they have no choice but to use the rings against Sauron while his herald, Elrond, objects.

Elrond escapes with the rings and takes them to Círdan, the oldest and wisest Elf in Middle-earth, who agrees to help until he sees the power of the rings and believes them to be true perfection.

Círdan, Galadriel, and Gil-galad put them on and the power of the Elves is restored.

The Stranger—a Wizard who is regaining his memories—and the Harfoot Nori Brandyfoot get lost on their way to the land of Rhûn. They are followed by Nori's friend Poppy Proudfellow, who brings Harfoot maps to help them find their way.

In Mordor, Halbrand is brought to Adar and reveals that Sauron has returned. He offers to go to Eregion—the Elven realm where the rings were forged—to gain their confidence and find Sauron's location while Adar raises his army for an assault on him.

Episode 2 “Where The Stars Are Strange” Synopsis

The ongoing eruption of Mount Doom causes an earthquake in the Dwarven realm of Khazad-dûm that destroys their infrastructure and leads to the withering of their crops. King Durin III and his son, Prince Durin IV, refuse to reconcile despite the crisis.

Galadriel has a vision of Celebrimbor's death and asks to meet him in Eregion to offer her protection from the threat of Sauron. Gil-galad agrees if Elrond leads her company, and Círdan convinces the reluctant Elrond that it would be better for him to guide his friends rather than abandon them.

In Rhûn, a Dark Wizard sends a group of riders to capture the Stranger. Finding a staff that he recognizes from his dreams, the Stranger summons a sandstorm which drives the riders off. He loses control and the storm sweeps Nori and Poppy away.

Meanwhile Sauron poses as Halbrand once again at the gates of Eregion and refuses to leave. Though he promised Galadriel he would never talk to Halbrand again, Celebrimbor does not know he is Sauron and eventually approaches him. Halbrand convinces Celebrimbor that he is Annatar, the "Lord of Gifts", an emissary from the Valar who has come to help make Rings of Power for Dwarves and Men.

We have reached the end of our adventure and discuss the finale of The Lord of The Rings The Rings of Power Episode 8 Alloyed in our spoiler filled podcast.

The Rings Of Power Episode 8 Alloyed Synopsis

Episode Written by Gennifer Hutchison with John D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Episode Directed by Wayne Chi Yip

Series showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

In the East, the white witches known as the Servants of Sauron catch up with The Stranger proclaiming him Lord Sauron, and pledging their service to him so that he may lift the veil of his enemies so he may know himself once again and rule over the lands of Middle-Earth. Nori and the Harfoots also manage to catch up with The Stranger, who has been bound by the Servants of Sauron to keep him from using his powers, which he still has little control over. They manage to free him and help him realise who he really is - he is not Sauron but one of the Istari or wizards. They manage to fend off the Servants of Sauron stealing The Dweller's staff, which the Stranger then uses to banish the trio back to the shadow.

Meanwhile, Galadriel and an injured Halbrand arrive in Eregion, much to the surprise of Elrond. The elvish medicine soon has Halbrand on his feet and he seeks out Celebrimbor, the great forger, and in their discussions Halbrand suggests a way of forging the mithril with other metals to enhance its strength. But as Celebrimbor explains what he must do to save the Elves from their diminishing light his choice of words makes Galadriel suspicious of Halbrand’s keen interest in the work at the great forge. She checks into the royal lineages of the Southlands.

As work progresses in the forge, Galadriel confronts Halbrand with her discovery that he is not from the lineage of the Southland kings, which was broken many years ago. Halbrand reveals himself to be Sauron, and infiltrates her mind to persuade her to become his queen and rule Middle-Earth with him as king, but she refuses. Sauron overpowers Galadriel and flees from Eregion. Keeping what she knows from Elrond and Celebrimbor, she instructs Celebrimbor to forge Three Rings instead of two, so that it brings balance to the holders.

Elendil and Míriel arrive back to Númenór to find king Tar-Palantir has died. While back amongst the Harfoots, the Stranger and Nori decide to depart the group and travel east, into Rhûn, to find the “Hermit’s Hat” constellation. Unsure which way to go, the Stranger chooses a direction based upon the sweet smell in the air, advising that when in doubt, to "always follow your nose". As their adventure into the East begins, so the journey of Sauron from Eregion finishes as he reaches the Land of Mordor.

    Episode Directed by Charlotte Brändström

Series showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

The village is aflame, buried in soot and ash. The survivors make for a nearby hill and the Numenorean base camp, where it is revealed that the Queen Regent Miriel has lost her eyesight, and Elendil begins to realise that his son, Isildur, is lost, presumed dead, after attempting to save people from a burning house. Upon reaching the encampment, Theo who has been accompanied by Galadreil is reunited with Bronwyn and Arondir, and Galadriel is promised further Númenórean support by Miriel to defeat their common enemy, though Elendil is resentful of Galadriel's appearance having brought these events on the Numenoreans and his son.

As the Númenóreans depart, a wounded Halbrand, found with a gash in his side, is in urgent need of Elvish medicine, as Galadriel brings him with her back to Lindon.Elsewhere, Nori's caravan finish their migration, but they find the other Harfoots lamenting the destruction of their grove due to the eruption of Orodruin. The Stranger's attempt to mend a tree appears to fail, so Sadoc, leader of the Harfoots, sends him away with a map of his constellation.

The following day, however, the entire grove has regrown. While the Harfoots rejoice, they are found by a mysterious trio of Witches in White who are in search of the Stranger. After failing to mislead them, the trio burn the caravans. Wanting to protect their friend, a group of Harfoots set out to warn him.

In Khazad-dûm, Elrond offers a deal for the Dwarvish mithril, but King Durin III declines, stating the Elven Age has ended. As Elrond departs, Durin IV witnesses mithril's ability to cure the Elven blight. He brings Elrond and begins to mine for the ore himself. Just as he strikes a massive mithril vein, King Durin arrives and banishes Elrond while also stripping Durin IV of his royal position before sealing the mine, though unbeknownst to him, a Balrog deep underground awakens.

In the destroyed Southland village, Adar and his army claim victory and rename the land Mordor.

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

The battle for the Southlands begins! Adar and the Orc army advance on the watchtower of Ostirith and find it abandoned. While they search the tower, Arrondir destroys the tower, causing it to collapse onto the Orc army. The townspeople, who moved down the valley to their village, cheer at the apparent victory but must prepare for the next assault.

As the villages make ready to hold off the remaining Orcs, Arrondir hides the broken blade hilt and professes his love to Bronwyn, promising a life together after the battle. The fighting between Orcs, Elves and humans begins, and while the villagers appear victorious, they discover that many of the enemy killed were actually the traitorous Southlanders, and the true Orc army attacks from the shadows, killing many and severely wounding Bronwyn.

Overwhelmed and cornered in the village tavern, Adar seeks out the hilt and begins putting the villagers to the sword one-by-one until Theo reveals the location of the broken blade to Adar. With all hope lost, the surviving townsfolk are saved by the Númenorian army who slay many of the remaining Orcs. Adar attempts to escape, but is captured by Galadriel and Halbrand. They interrogate him, discovering his origins as a Moriondor or Uruk, elves corrupted by Morgoth. He taunts them, feigning memory of killing Halbrand's Southlandian family and claiming to have killed Sauron.

Back at the village, Halbrand is hailed as the King of the Southlands, while Theo realises the broken blade they recovered is a decoy while the true blade had been carried back to the watchtower by Waldreg. He uses it on the mechanism at Ostirith, causing the nearby dam to release water that rushes through the Orc tunnels towards Mount Doom. Clashing with magma, the resulting eruption releases clouds of volcanic ash, hot gasses and molten debris into the air, darkening the skies over the Southlands and spreading devastation across the Southlands.

    Episode Written by Justin Doble

    Episode Directed by Wayne Yip

Series showrunners John D. Payne and Patrick McKay

Based on "The Lord of the Rings" and appendices by J.R.R. Tolkien

While protecting Nori and the other Harfoots from a wolf pack, the Stranger's use of magic injures his own arm. He heals it using conjured ice, and as Nori attempts to help him she is accidentally fused to him by the ice. Panicked, she attempts to struggle free and is flung away from him as she manages to free herself from the icy hold. Frightened, she flees from the Stranger.

In Númenor, Galadriel convinces Halbrand to join the expedition to Middle-earth after retelling her battles and losses against Sauron. At the same time, Kemen, son of Pharazôn, attempts to destroy the expedition ships, believing Galadriel and Míriel will take the fall and allow Pharazôn to rise to power with the people's support. However, he is caught by Isildur, who is rewarded with a spot on the expedition crew.

In Lindon, Gil-galad reveals to Elrond his knowledge of and intention to use the Dwarvish mithril to extend the existence of the Elves in Middle-earth, as their life-force is diminishing. Elrond admits this discovery to Durin, and they return to Khazad-dûm to try to convince King Durin that in his hands lies the very existence of Elf-kind in this world.

In the Southlands, half of the townspeople cave into Adar's demands and join him, believing him to be Sauron. Theo shows the broken sword to Arrondir, who realises it is a key to help warp the Southlands into Sauron's realm of evil and darkness. With the watchtower at Ostirith now the target for the oncoming Orc army headed by Adar. As the remaining townspeople prepare for battle against the approaching army, they light the watchtower’s beacon to signal for help.
