    Rarely do we get Political here on The Roundtable, but somethings just are beyond party lines. As a teacher, I was honored to talk to the Mayor of Baltimore Brandon Scott & Filmmaker Gabriel Francis Paz Goodenough about their new doc, "The Body Politic" and how the Mayor is reducing gun violence. We have all heard the stories, seen the heartbreak, and for teachers and students, sat in lock down drills with the fear of guns. Together we can make our leaders make a change! "THE BODY POLITIC is a harbinger of hope in a country plagued by gun violence. Brandon Scott is a young Mayor who grew up during Baltimore’s most troubling years and sets out, with unyielding idealism, to change the course of his battered and beloved city. He is elected Mayor amid nationwide unrest following the murder of George Floyd. With unfettered access, cameras follow Brandon throughout his first year in office as he introduces an ambitious plan for violence reduction and police reform that he promises will lower the city’s murder rate. Pundits claim Brandon’s political health and the city’s health are tied to the number 348 – the total murders Baltimore had the previous year, more homicides than New York City, a city 15 times its size. After entering office and barely getting a chance to enact his first safety reforms, violence surges to new highs. As the media and political foes attack his holistic approach, his commitment to his plan and principles put his political future in jeopardy. Will his holistic approach lead to healing and serve as a blueprint for the rest of the nation? From award-winning musician, writer, producer, director, and star, Jussie Smollett, comes the highly anticipated film “The Lost Holliday” set to debut in US theaters on September 27th. The critically acclaimed, poignant, and heartwarming indie film, which received rave reviews at ABFF, will open in select AMC Theatres this September. Vivica A. Fox stars as Cassandra Marshall, who arrives in Los Angeles to plan the funeral of her estranged son, Damien Holliday (Jabari Redd). Upon her arrival, Cassandra discovers that the funeral arrangements are already being handled by her son's husband, Jason Holliday (Jussie Smollett) - a man and a marriage she knew nothing about. Through Jason, their adopted daughter Arielle (Londyn Carter), Jason's sister Cheyenne (Brittany Hall), and best friend Duck (Marquise Vilsón), Cassandra learns more about her son in death than she ever did in his life. "The Lost Holliday" explores themes of family dynamics, friendship, fatherhood, adoption, mother-son and father-daughter relationships, grief, and the bonds of love that transcend time, generational trauma, and even death. The film also celebrates LGBTQIA+ representation and the importance of acceptance, shining a light on the adversity and triumphs of a same-gender-loving couple navigating family dissension and societal presumptions. Audiences in each city will have an opportunity to meet a star from the movie, view the traveling museum which includes artifacts and costumes from the film; participate in a costume contest judged by one of these stars and engage in a performance with the local Shadow Cast who will be performing scenes from the movie ‘live’ while the full un-edited film is shown. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the iconic little movie that conquered Hollywood. The hit movie stars Tim Curry as the devious and fabulous Frank-N-Furter, Meatloaf, Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon as everybody's favorite nerdy couple – Brad and Janet, Patricia Quinn as Magenta – and the film's creator Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff. Her directorial work has been seen at the Tank, the V&A, Powerhouse Theater, Serpentine Galleries, The Wexner Center, Powerhouse Theater, SCAD, The Logan Center for the Arts in Chicago, Museo Jumex Mexico City, The Power Plant, Clubbed Thumb, HERE, The Brick, The Bushwick Starr, Soho Gallery, PS122, Dixon Place, Soho Rep, Ars Nova, Montclair State, New Georges, The Flea, Canadian Stage, Carnegie Mellon, Brooklyn College, MIT, NYU, the Great Plains Theater Conference and others. Under her leadership, The Tank has established itself in a two theater complex on 36th Street, tripling its artistic programming and annual revenue since FY17. In 2020, The Tank was awarded an OBIE AWARD for institutional excellence, under Finn's leadership as Artistic Director. Franz Kafka may never have intended for his name to become an adjective, but nevertheless, Kafkaesque! celebrates his body of work by layering predicaments from his stories onto one contemporary American family. The result is horrifying bodily transformations, artistic eating disorders, and cancel culture run amok, all under the dark umbrella and relentless grind of late-stage capitalism.
