    Apr 17 2021

Niki Guinan and I met for the first time doing this podcast as a recommendation from a colleague from my high school theatre days. Niki is running two versions of Winnie the Pooh entirely online for 44 elementary school students. It's all Zoom, she's cutting it together, and she's awesome.

This is the first episode of The Show Must Go Online, a podcast created and hosted by Danny Hughes with the goal of helping theatre professionals and educators find ways to "make it work" in an increasingly digital theatrical world.

    Apr 17 2021

In the second episode of The Show Must Go Online, I talk with husband and wife Rob Carroll and Abby Olson-Carroll. Rob's a K12 Theatre teacher and Abby is a theatre professional in South Carolina, but I met them doing community theatre in Carroll County, Maryland about ten years ago.

This episode covers a lot, like how to choose a show not just for monetary gain, but for social change (even in a pandemic) and how to put on Tartuffe in your living room while your husband tries to entertain two large dogs in a bedroom.

  • Julia Creutzer
    Apr 17 2021

This interview is an absolute delight. I directed Julia in a few productions when she was in high school, and now, she's still pursuing theatre, despite the state of the world. Her energy and enthusiasm are and absolute delight as she talks about what it's like to be a performing arts college student in the COVID era.

  • Emily Hoffen
    Apr 17 2021

Somewhere, in Howard County Maryland, there sits a Footloose set that may never see an audience...assuming a 5"3' second year theatre teacher can take it down by herself. Otherwise, who knows? Maybe it'll be around for a bit!

This interview is with Emily Hoffen who's in her second year teaching at Oakland Mills High School. We talk about strategies for teaching theatre online and what it's like to deal with a pandemic in your first year of teaching.

Heather and I have known each other for a while, and in this interview, she talks about how to make a production of Cinderella work all on Zoom (with 10 slippers!) and how to keep pressing forward in education and production amidst a pandemic.

  • Rainelle Jochum and Curtis Brothers
    Apr 17 2021

Rainelle and Curtis have a unique story: they performed a few live performances amidst the pandemic. While many of my guests have opted to take performances full virtual, Rainelle and Curtis took a different approach, while following all of the mandatory guidelines of their state.

Check out the Pineappl app here: https://pineappl.studio/login

Chris Griswold has been teaching and performing improv for decades, and he wanted to find a way to make improv not just work online, but actually be good. So, he teamed up with a student, Michael Parlato, and they made an app. An improv app. And it's super cool.

Chris has a lot to say about online performance, and Pineappl is definitely worth checking out!
