In 1998 the death of 81-year-old Kathleen Grundy caused an investigation into the practices of Doctor Harold Shipman. This caused any of his patients who had died in the past without cremation to be exhumed, and all of the patients showed signs of drug overdose, all with the same type of drug.

In April of 2006, Maine's sex offenders registry was taken down due to two registered offenders being killed within hours of each other. Police were able to track the murderer down before anymore people were killed, but the killings caused a lot of debate around the safety of registered offenders.
