Maggie Mills is a ghostwriter who talks about the writing process, how readers' minds work, how non-fiction is researched and written, how to overcome writing blocks, and how to get your story out there into the world. She confirms that, much unlike what some people say, it doesn't have to cost thousands. Have you ever found yourself reading a book, or listening to a story and thinking, "I could have written that! Maybe it's time to DO EXACTLY THAT!

Maggie provides ghostwriting services to non-fiction authors and has covered many books from medical to crime to life stories, for preachers, medical professionals, educators, self-help gurus, and more. I asked her whether she'd agree, are there certain topics where we just "have enough books on that?" (spoiler alert, Maggie thinks there are NEVER enough books written about a specific topic).

She coaches fiction writers, assisting them with dialogue, setting, character building, storyline, etc. And uses persona and target audience to help with voice and language when ghostwriting and coaching.

She found her most interesting topic was human trafficking. But true crime and other topics also provided her with a different perspective, and in some cases a deeper understanding and empathy with those she was supporting.

Being a ghostwriter and coach, I didn't think she got much time to do her own writing but when I asked her, she admitted, she has a few books in the planning stages. One, a mystery, was inspired by her stage of life, being a woman who has difficulty being heard, and sometimes feels she's invisible to others. Her main character shares this problem and ends up taking on a life of crime to support a financial emergency.

She is also collaborating with a medium to write a book of advice for writers. The latter is titled 6 Dead People Tell You How to Write a Book. I don't know about you, but I'll be looking for that one... and will check in with her in a few months to see how her fiction series is coming along.
