Through conversations with diverse change-makers in the community, the podcast hopes to strengthen inclusivity amongst the Bismarck community, by encouraging others to get to know their neighbor.

    Kurt Snyder began his career at the University of Mary where he received hisbachelor of science in addiction studies in 1998. He has worked in the addictionfield since 1999 and has served as executive director of the Heartview Foundationsince 2005. He is a Licensed Addiction Counselor, Licensed Social Worker andholds a master’s degree in management. Snyder is a graduate of the AddictionTechnology Transfer Center Advanced Leadership Institute. In 2011, hespearheaded the effort for Licensed Addiction Counselors to gain direct access tothe North Dakota Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and NorthDakota became the first and only state to allow Licensed Addiction Counselorsdirect access to this tool and better monitor their patient’s controlled substancehistory. Along with positions as an advisory board member for the Mountain WestAddiction Technology Transfer Center, past chairman of the North Dakota Boardof Addiction Counseling Examiners, and past chairman of the North BehavioralHealth Planning Council, Snyder is a founding board member for the North DakotaProfessional Health Program, the monitoring program for impaired physicians.

    Snyder has been awarded the 2017 University of Mary Presidential Leadership Award, the 2023 Walt Odegaard Leadership Award from NDANO, and most recently was honored by Governor Burgum and First Lady Kathryn Burgum with the Phoenix Award at Recovery Reinvented. The phoenix is famous for rising from the ashesto be born again and is a testament to second chance opportunities and renewal.Kurt has been is recovery from addiction since June of 1993.

    Emily Yanish is currently the Development Director for Youthworks, and a LicensedProfessional Clinical Counselor. She received her undergraduate degree from St. OlafCollege in 2003, and her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the Universityof St. Thomas in 2007. Emily has been employed with Youthworks since December2007, and has enjoyed numerous roles at the organization, including Coordinator for theShort Term Care and Assessment Center, Family Counselor, Program Manager, and nowDevelopment Director. Her work entails raising awareness and support for the work thatYouthworks does throughout North Dakota. Emily is married to her husband Lance, and together they have two children.

  • TAYN Ep. 45 - Holly Triska

    Holly Triska grew up in Wilton, North Dakota and began her career as a Peace Corps volunteer working in both Nicaragua and Guatemala. After 4 years in Central America, she moved to Washington, DC where she led the Federal Programs Division at the Hispanic College Fund. Holly went on to serve as the Director of Graduate Studies in Int’l Economic Development at The Catholic University of America where she earned a Master of Arts from the Busch School of Business and Economics.

    Following her mother’s diagnosis with a terminal illness, she returned to ND to focus on family. While she did not intend to stay, ND quickly reestablished itself as home. Community life was welcoming, filled with heritage, and opportunity. Holly became actively involved in welcoming and connecting newcomers to local resources and networks. She became ND’s State Refugee Coordinator in 2021.
