If you haven't been to a Porchfest, this special event is a local, grassroots live music festival that takes place on home porches, local businesses, and venues throughout the US. Porchfest Benicia, on September 21st, 2024, is a celebration of community and a testament to the power of music to bring us together. This music festival is unlike any other taking place on the porches of Benicia historic vintage homes. The curated live music also spills into our local businesses, driveways, parking lots, and the charming restaurants that line historic First Street, the heart of our community. This is a FREE event for all and VIP tickets are also available for an elevated culinary and wine + beer experience, as well as access to exclusive VIP lounges (see links below).

For this this Part 2 episode, we're taking the podcast on the road, sitting down with the The Ex Capitals Band, in their recording garage. On September 21st, they will be playing on the Mary Farmer School of Rock Stage. For this this first part of the two-episode series, we're sitting down with Jerry and Mary Ellen Hayes who are two stewards of Benicia history and have been dedicated to serving our community alongside their families for six generations and counting. Their charming porch will be one of the stages where we will be able to experience live music. As our former Mayor, Jerry Hayes has also served our town on the Benicia Planning Commission, Benicia City Council and the Benicia Historical Society.

Following this episode, we'll sit down with the Benicia band, The Ex Capitals, who will be gracing this porch with amazing live music as the Mary Farmer School of Rock Stage. We will learn more about their connection to Benicia and a bit of what we can expect to see on September 21st. We're so excited to bring this rich history and story to you. Philip has exhibited at The Clayarch Gimhae Museum in South Korea and Cranbrook Art Museum and has been featured in publications throughout the art world, such as Artforum. His work explores the accumulation of experiences, how repetition and layering can produce new forms through the process of making.
