  • Episode 08: Severin Films Dark Double
    Dec 20 2024

We Own the Dark is thrilled to partner with Severin Films to cover Douglas Buck’s thought-provoking and heart wrenching Family Portraits: A Trilogy of America and the surprisingly bonkers and beautiful Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker from director William Archer.

Intense and thematically daring, these two films examine all forms of family-focused trauma, resulting in our in-depth discussion and analysis on the whole gamut of mental illness and deviant behavior displayed within the storytelling. We Own the Dark loved covering these two films and were so happy to explore great special features on Severin Film’s Blu-ray releases including behind-the-scenes coverage, commentaries, and cast interviews!

  • Episode 07: The Sentinel/The House That Jack Built
    Oct 23 2024

Join We Own the Dark as we abandon all hope and journey through the circles of hell with Episode 07! Jason possessed us with his choice of The Sentinel (1977), Michael Winner’s demon-laced religious horror with a star-studded cast and all the trippy, surreal vibes we could hope for from great 70s horror. Jerry couldn’t help but continue the hellscape appreciation by pairing Lars von Trier’s The House that Jack Built (2018), a deep, dark, violent dive into art vs. artist, man vs. woman, engineer vs. architect…

This is the perfect double feature for anyone seeking gorgeous, deviant imagery and philosophical musings on brutality. Take a watch then take a listen and let us know what you think of the pairing! Also, head over to Rue Morgue and read Jerry’s editorial on The House that Jack Built for her Beautiful Filth column!

  • Episode 06: Koko-di Koko-da/Hour Of The Wolf
    Sep 8 2024

We Own the Dark Episode 06 finds the horror in the surreal!! Jerry’s choice for this month’s discussion is Johnannes Nyholm’s 2019 Swedish-Danish time and mind-bending Koko-di Koko-da. Jason pairs this emotionally charged and highly bizarre horror fantasy with an absolutely stunning classic, an obvious inspiration for so many of our contemporary surrealist filmmakers, Ingmar Bergman’s 1968 psychological horror Hour of the Wolf.
