A difficult story told with empathy
This isn’t an easy listen, the trigger warnings are there for a reason. I admit that I had to push myself to work through the series but I’m so glad I did. This feels like an important story which is told with care and empathy. As the narrator says at one point, this isn’t about judging a lifestyle but about the vulnerable men who were exploited within it. Extraordinary.

Important journalism
A hard listen but sensitively handled by the journalist. It’s mind boggling what some people will do to others. My love to those who lost their lives and their families and friends. I hope this podcast will bring light to what happened and help inform others of the dangers.

Essential listening
The best podcast I’ve listened to in ages. Patrick did an excellent job at sensitively handling a dark story with a heavy subject matter. The contributions are honest and moving. I was left with a number of emotions but there is an overwhelming sense of respect for all those who spoke out and helped stop Ed Buck.

Riveting and brilliantly told
Patrick Strudwick is a natural story teller who leads you through a modern day tale of horror. The crimes he reveals are beyond belief but gradually he peels away the layers to bring you understanding of how two dead bodies could be found in the home of a rich political figure without him even being arrested.

Gripping and thought-provoking insight
Exquisitely researched and wonderfully told this is an engaging and gripping insight into the secret dark world of Ed Buck’s power and sexual exploitation over his victims. Highly recommended.
The author Patrick Strudwick provides well researched insights from those men who survived their ordeal in Buck’s apartment, bringing to light their shocking and incredible accounts of the power held over them. It was fascinating and at times emotional, to hear from the friends of those victims who died and the community that rallied around to take matters into their own hands when Buck was not arrested. It’s a scandal that he was allowed to continue preying on young vulnerable gay men. I’ve just got to episode nine, which is a shocking and intense episode that goes into the trial, with reflections from the prosecution lawyers and excerpts from the court transcripts revealing the extent of Buck’s abuse from within this hidden world of chemsex.
The narration, also by the author, is excellent and keeps the listener engaged. The story is fairly fast paced introducing you to the victims, loved ones and acquaintances of Ed Buck, through their own voices and accounts. Amazing.
