    Sep 1 2024

We're back! Join us, Sarah and Thomas, as we go through ESPN's recent published list of their Top 100 Athletes of the 21st Century. We have some thoughts, including about how many baseball players appear on this list, the upcoming Formula 1 film, and debate whether motorsport is more difficult than riding horses.

This episode was originally recorded as a live stream, so you may occasionally hear us interacting with the chat.

  • The Whitlams
    Nov 1 2022

Named after one of Australia's most progressive Prime Ministers, The Whitlams are a band Thomas had definitely heard, but never fully paid attention to. Sarah was the same until she was invited to see them live about five years ago. In this episode, we talk about how Tim Freedman manages to be celebrated yet still underrated, the insidiousness of gambling in our culture, and run into our old nemesis, Powderfinger.

  • TISM
    Oct 9 2022

Tom thinks they're the greatest Australian band and describes them as "audial bliss." Sarah had never heard of them and describes them as "an assault on the senses." We're talking 'This is Serious, Mum', the experimental, post-modern, electronic-punk-alternative band from Melbourne. Conversation includes whether music should be free, another dive into the archives of Triple J's Hottest 100, and Tom's collection of southern cross tattoos.

  • Surely You're Joking, Mr Feynman!
    Sep 17 2022

We read another book! This week, Thomas and Sarah talk about, 'Surely You're Joking Mr Feynman', the memoir of the Nobel prize winning physicist who worked on the Manhattan project and the committee to investigate the Challenger disaster. He was also an exceptional drummer, painter, and lock-picker. This book is one of Tom's favourites, and while Sarah had no idea who Richard Feynman was, couldn't put it down. Conversation includes some rough explanations of quantum physics, whether it's okay to steal a door from your fraternity house, and the music of Macklemore.

We also discuss the fact that we now have merch available! Unfortunately, one of the designs we promoted has been taken down due to copyright issues, but our new logo is still available on a variety of items.

  • The Outsiders
    Sep 3 2022

It's our first episode on books, and we're discussing one of Sarah's favourite reads, S.E. Hinton's 'The Outsiders.' Tom couldn't put it down, and Sarah is still convinced she could save Dallas Winston. Conversation includes the history of young adult fiction, how things are rough all over, and how initialed authors are likely to be women.

  • The Castle
    Aug 20 2022

In this episode, Sarah rectifies a great travesty in her film watching history, as she finally sees the Australian classic, 'The Castle', for the first time. She and Tom dive into the history of Working Dog productions and the work of Rob Sitch, discuss whether this is the best Australian movie, and talk about the greatness that comes in the form of Eric Bana.

Here are some of the articles Sarah references in the episode:
