Today we continue in our message series in Galatians, Good News, diving into what it means to be free in Christ. Before we come to know Christ, we long to gratify our desires, our flesh. We live with internal passions to be fulfilled; every time we fulfill them, they grow. Once we have come to know Jesus and accepted Him as our savior, we learn that those in Christ have crucified their flesh along with their passions and desires. Yet, we still may experience these desires from our old life. So, as we learn to walk with the Spirit, Jesus points out a few steps we should take as we walk alongside Him. We must recognize that we have an inner struggle that goes towards fulfilling our flesh, we should acknowledge the fruit that is growing in our life and put our flesh to death in Christ Jesus. When we walk with the Spirit and crucify our flesh, we will see godly attributes growing in our lives like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Today we push forward in our study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians, discovering more truths that shape our identity. As we live in the freedom of the Gospel, we see that the law is powerless. With Jesus sacrifice on the cross, He abolished the law and the need to work for or earn our salvation. Paul helps us see that the purpose of the law is because of our sin, until God sent Jesus Christ to be the full atonement for our sins. What a privilege that we can be free in Christ and have the promise of adoption of faith in Christ alone. We read what Paul exclaimed, “For in Jesus Christ you are all sons of God, through faith...heirs according to the promise.” Through faith in Christ, we are no longer slaves but sons and heirs of God. Today, we are continuing our series, Good News, looking at the truth and hope of the Gospel. We'll ask the question; how do we experience the blessings of God? In Galatians, we see how Paul desires the church of Galatia to not believe in a false gospel, he urges them to believe in the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s blessing comes by faith alone in Christ alone. In obedience to Christ, we must surrender our efforts and trust in Jesus, He has won, and we can have hope in Him. Paul asked direct questions to the church in this passage that allowed them to think through how they were experiencing the blessings of God in their lives. As we dive into another week of our Good News message series, we will see this week that the Gospel alone is all we need. Paul writes in his letter to Galatia that he has been crucified with Christ, stating that Christ lives in him, no longer did he allow his flesh to lead him. As fellow believers in Jesus, this truth is the same for us. When we came to know Christ Jesus, we surrendered our lives to Him, from there our lives are transformed by faith in God. In this chapter, we see that nothing but the Gospel is needed. The Gospel is our source of freedom, ministry, and justification. We have access to lean on Jesus at any moment. The Gospel is rich in hope for a weary world. Last week we kicked off our fall sermon series, Good News, looking at the goodness within the Gospel and how it impacts us. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is revelation that transforms, this change is from the inside out. When we receive salvation in Christ, we are brought to repentance because the Gospel reveals our sin and urges us to turn away from it. Jesus takes us on a journey to remove sin and shame and instill faith, hope, and courage in Him. The Gospel reveals Christ and our destiny. Placing our faith and hope in Christ gives us the promise of spending eternity with Him. This fall we are beginning a new series titled, Good News, where we will turn to the book of Galatians to uncover the truth and goodness of the Gospel. This Sunday, we will discover how the gospel is unique. The gospel immerses itself into every aspect of our lives. Our God is personal, He desires to work and speak to us in specific and intentional ways. The Gospel provides hope to remind us that there is redemption for the evil of this world. The source of the Gospel, the heart of the Gospel, and the exclusivity of the Gospel are unique. Our Metamorphosis series has been focused on transforming our minds to align with Christ, this week we will discuss anger and learn how we can reframe our mindset on how we handle anger. James 1:19 states we should be “quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to become angry.” As we choose to deal with our anger lovingly, we should seek wisdom from scripture because Godly wisdom produces peace among people. When seeking wisdom from God's word we will see that Godly wisdom brings peace and Godly wisdom takes action, while worldly wisdom produces chaos. In our pursuit to deal with our anger in ways that glorify God, let us seek out scripture and wisdom from above. This week in our Metamorphosis series, we looked at adversity and found out how we can look at adversity as opportunity rather than a hindrance. In Philippians, Paul writes about his imprisonment due to sharing the Gospel, Paul is an example of how adversity can cause us to grow in Christ. Paul even exclaims, “for me to live is Christ, to die is gain.” We have an opportunity to bring the Gospel everywhere, we should not be ashamed of it, for Christ dwells in us if we have placed our trust in Him alone. Embracing adversity requires us to know that endurance inspires faith, we should rejoice in Gospel proclamation and recognize that adversity is a win-win.
