The Holy Spirit is a studious and soul-thrilling look at the Person of the Holy Spirit. It was originally published in Arthur W. Pink’s monthly Studies in the Scriptures. In these thirty-one chapters, Pink examines things such as: the Personality, Deity, Titles, and Covenant-Offices of the Holy Spirit; The Holy Spirit during the Old Testament Ages, the Holy Spirit and Christ, the Advent and the Work of the Spirit; the Spirit Regenerating, Quickening, Enlightening, Convicting, Comforting, Drawing, Working Faith, Uniting to Christ, Indwelling, Teaching, Cleansing, etc.

This is a very well-written explanation and defense of the biblical doctrine of predestination. The author, Loraine Boettner, received a bachelor of science degree from Tarkio College in 1925. He then attended Princeton Theological Seminary, receiving two degrees there: a bachelor of theology in 1928, and a master of theology in 1929.

Arthur W. Pink gets right to the point in this brief but beneficial book. To pray correctly, Christians need clarity, and this book delivers. Pink said it well: “We need something better than that which is of mere human origin to guide us if we are to perform aright this essential duty.” This book assists the modern disciple to better understand the Lord’s Prayer taught to those first disciples long ago.

Volume 2 covers the entire sixth chapter of Matthew: alms, prayer, fasting, covetousness, the single eye, serving God, and anxiety forbidden.

A wonderfully helpful book. Christians need divine comfort, and Arthur W. Pink reminds us of the incredibly glorious comfort that belongs to every Christian. From our never being condemned for our sins, through all the various afflictions, chastisements, sufferings, and trials of life, all the way to the death of each saint, the comfort God provides his own can be richly exercised in the hearts and lives of every Christian.

Using this dual imagery of the Lion and the Lamb, Edwards magnified Christ in his majestic person as both God and man. For the Christian, this sermon is pure exaltation, pure enjoyment, and pure worship.
