"Bluebeard" is a French folktale, the most famous surviving version of which was written by Charles Perrault. The tale tells the story of a violent nobleman in the habit of murdering his wives and the attempts of one wife to avoid the fate of her predecessors. "Once upon a time there was a man who had fine houses, both in town and country, a deal of silver and gold plate, carved furniture, and coaches gilded all over. But unhappily this man had a blue beard, which made him so ugly and so terrible that all the women and girls ran away from him."

"Little Thumb" is the youngest of seven children in a poor woodcutter's family. His greater wisdom compensates for his smallness of size. When the children are abandoned by their parents, he finds a variety of means to save his life and the lives of his brothers. After being threatened and pursued by an ogre, Poucet steals his magic seven-league boots while the monster is sleeping.

"The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood" by Charles Perrault is a classic French fairytale involving a beautiful princess, a sleeping enchantment, and a handsome prince. "There were formerly a king and a queen, who were so sorry that they had no children; so sorry that it cannot be expressed. They went to all the waters in the world; vows, pilgrimages, all ways were tried, and all to no purpose. At last, however, the Queen had a daughter."

"Le Chat botté" : Il était une fois, voici bien longtemps, un pauvre meunier qui avait trois fils. Les deux ainés étaient très paresseux, mais le plus jeune travaillait dur. A sa mort, le meunier ne laissa à ses enfants que son moulin, son âne et son chat. Le plus vieux reçut le moulin ; le second, l'âne ; et le troisième n'hérita que d'un chat... botté !

"Barbe bleue" : Un riche gentilhomme nommé Barbe-Bleue cherche une demoiselle à marier. Mais aucune jeune fille ne veut l'épouser à cause de sa barbe bleue qui le rend laid. L'étrange disparition de ses six anciennes épouses crée un mystère autour de ses mariages.

"Le petit Chaperon rouge" : "Il ne faut pas se fier aveuglément aux flatteurs." Le petit Chaperon rouge, ainsi nommé à cause de son capuchon rouge, va porter à sa grand-mère un petit pot de beurre et une galette.

"Le petit Poucet" : "Être rusé et astucieux vaut aussi bien que d'être un joyeux héritier." Un jour, des parents décident d'abandonner leurs sept enfants au plus profond de la forêt, leur misère ne leur permettant plus de les nourrir.
