A Stranger’s Story is based on one of the many intriguing, sometimes heartwarming and sometimes not, but always emotionally rich memories of John J.J. Batiste, Sr. He was born in New Iberia, Louisiana, in 1913 to father Eraste and mother Elizabeth. This story takes place circa 1942 when John was traveling to Vancouver, Washington, to start a job in the shipyards in support of the war efforts. It reveals John’s faith, his efforts to share it to support a stranger, and that stranger’s demonstration of what is meant by free will.

A woman dragged down by racism, but overcomes all. Winnifred "Winny" Jane Dixon, born August 1, 1865, to Jonathan and Brenda Dixon, both born August 1 1845 until July 17, 1880. Winifred Dixon was born to a family who were slaves for the McAllister family in Savannah, Georgia. Her father, Jonathan, was a butler for the family as well as working in the fields of the plantation. It all started with my great-grandfather Michael in 1876. Grandpa Michael owned a plantation called "Willow Manor". My father and grandfather told me that he fell in love with a Black woman who only used him to be set free, and that's where my feelings of hatred for Black people began. Now, have Black people ever done a thing to me? No, but they messed with my family, and you just don't do that in my book.
