Poetry is often cited as our greatest use of words. The English language has well over a million of them and poets down the ages seem, at times, to make use of every single one. But often they use them in simple ways to describe anything and everything from landscapes to all aspects of the human condition. Poems can evoke within us an individual response that takes us by surprise; that opens our ears and eyes to very personal feelings.

Doch als Mogli schließlich in die Welt der Menschen zurückkehrt, ahnt er, dass ihm das größte Abenteuer seines Lebens noch bevorsteht.

Just So Stories is a collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling in 1902. He developed them during one of his many journeys to Africa. He told children wonderful accounts of how the animal kingdom's eccentricities came about. The collection of stories came to be known for their wordplay and insistence of placing the wisdom of children at the heart of his stories.

Four short stories are included in this volume of Kipling works. They are: "Mowgli's Brothers" - Mowgli, a small boy, is found orphaned in the jungle by wolves and raised by them; "Kaa's Hunting" - Mowgli is kidnapped by the Bandar-log (monkeys) and rescued by Kaa, a python; "The White Seal" - The community of seals believe a great white seal will come, and deliver them from the wrath of the seal hunters; and "Rikki Tikki Tavi" - A young mongoose defends his human family against a pair of marauding cobras.

When the first three were published in a children's magazine, a year before her death, Kipling explained: "....in the evening, there were stories meant to put Effie to sleep, and you were not allowed to alter those by one single little word. Zwei ehemalige Angehörige der Britischen Armee reisen in das afghanische Kafiristan. Die beiden Abenteurer wollen dort mit Hilfe von Waffenlieferungen einen heimischen Stammesfürsten stürzen und selbst die Herrschaft übernehmen. Mowgli, le "petit homme", a hanté notre enfance. Il est sorti des pages du "Livre de la Jungle" pour nous prendre par la main et nous entraîner dans ses hautes terres de liberté. C'est grâce à lui que nous avons surpris les conversations, participé aux chasses, aux jeux, aux angoisses, aux farces, des singes, des loups, serpents, chacals... et de Rikki-tikki-tavi, la mangouste... et de Bagheera la belle panthère noire. Revenu chez lui, il est couronné roi des éléphants et épouse sa cousine Céleste.

Ein kleiner indischer Junge wird durch den Überfall des lahmen Tigers Shere Khan auf seine Eltern von diesen getrennt und stößt im Dschungel zufällig auf eine Wolfsfamilie, die ihn unter Leitung der Wölfin Raksha zusammen mit ihrem eigenen Wurf aufzieht. Die Wölfe nennen ihn "Mowgli" und er erlernt nach und nach alle Fertigkeiten, die er zum Überleben im Dschungel benötigt. Nach einiger Zeit wird er, wie alle Wolfskinder, dem gesamten Rudel präsentiert, um begutachtet und akzeptiert zu werden. Auf die Fürsprache des Bären Balu, dem "Lehrer der Gesetze", und des schwarzen Panthers Bagheera wird er ins Rudel aufgenommen.

From Rudyard Kipling's classic The Jungle Book, Rikki Tikki Tavi is the story of a mongoose and two cobras. Taken in after being washed into the garden of a British family in India, he protects the house from the devious cobras Nag and Nagaina with help from his friends and mongoose cunning.
