"El gato del Brasil" de Arthur Conan Doyle trata sobre un joven aristócrata inglés que se encuentra al borde de la ruina decide visitar a su primo millonario que acaba de regresar de Brasil. El joven descubre que, entre otras curiosas aficiones, su pariente tiene un inmenso e intrincado jardín tropical lleno de especies exóticas -con raras plantas, aves y reptiles- donde destaca un enorme e inquietante animal enjaulado: el gato de Brasil, cuyo alimento preferido es la carne humana.

Un joven ingeniero hidráulico de Londres, el Sr. Victor Hatherley, les relata los sucesos extraños de la noche anterior, primero al doctor Watson y luego a Sherlock Holmes en persona. In October 1916, Conan Doyle announced in the journal light his conversion to spiritualism. During the last years of his life, he became the crusader of this movement that preaches salvation of humanity through science. Thus, from 1920 to 1923, he gave a series of lectures about spiritualism in Australia, in USA, and in Canada.
