The Undead have been blooded in combat. Now it’s time to prove their value. The huge cost and effort to reanimate them must be worth it. But as the Undead are finding their footing and discovering how to best fight the war with the Tucanan invaders, the aliens are not standing still. With humanity joining the alliance to fight the Naxli invaders, the war should be turning in their favor. Unfortunately, the enemy must not have gotten that memo. Across the galaxy, the Naxli strive for total domination. To create a stronger resistance, Gunny Pelletier is sent to work with the various races, but he and his team soon discover that reaching common ground and coordinating military action is far more difficult than they’d imagined.

Now at home in the Aquarian system, Dash and his team receive news from a dying ship. With 30 systems under their inhuman control, the newest enemy to free life in the galaxy seeks to engage and destroy the Messenger by any means necessary. The skyhooks are only the beginning of a secret plan to hide Dark Metal, but Dash, the Gentle Friends, and the rest of the Messenger's growing forces will find a way to fight back. Plunging into the swirling deep, Dash discovers an ancient plot to use drones, Dark Metal, and a device so advanced it is only known by one word: the Shroud.

The Exile Fleet has been decimated, but the mission must go on. What other choice do they have? With most of the officers KIA, Sergeant Major Reverent Pelletier has to step up to lead the ground force. Meanwhile, the remaining ships ply the far reaches on unexplored space to identify potential threats to humanity. And as the saying goes, if you search for trouble, trouble will often find you. With peace at home beginning to break down, the Exile Fleet is on its own as it tries to fulfill its mission...and not get killed in the process.

Rev is a Marine, born and bred to fight and survive, to defend those who cannot defend themselves. But one way or another, his journey is coming to an end.
