Ghost stories by M. R. James are pretty varied, and based on the genre of Gothic novels. The plot of "Oh, Whistle, and I'll Come to You, My Lad" is unveiled when Professor Parkins finds a whistle engraved with a Latin inscription... and blows it. "The School Story", builds a mystic and fearsome atmosphere around a mysterious Byzantine coin. Once again, well-chosen voices, superb music, and original cover-graphics serve to enhance the feel of the stories.

The author of the first short story - "The Haunted Dolls' House" - is Montague Rhodes James, "master of terror and monstrous visions". "Cool Air" and "Azathoth" by Howard Phillips Lovecraft complete the collection. The atmosphere of horror and mystery is underlined by excellent performances by all actors and music.

He writes every day to his brother to update him on events...and describes a series of most bizarre and inexplicable happenings.

The boundaries which divide life from death are at best shadowy and vague. Never more so than in this collection of 30 weird and macabre tales.

Count Magnus is the story of an amateur scholar travelling in a remote part of Sweden, whose researches lead him to the mausoleum where the infamous Count Magnus is interred. As he researches the history of the long dead count, and learns more about his ill deeds and the mysterious "black pilgimage" from which he returned with something or someone evil...strange and horrifying events begin to overtake him.

Mr. Abney, the owner of Aswarby, a tall, square, red-brick mansion built in the reign of Anne, proved himself to be a very evil man. No one knew more of the religious beliefs of the later pagans than did the owner of Aswarby. He performed hideous experiments on such persons as could conveniently be removed without occasioning a gap in society. The final "victim" - to employ a word repugnant in the highest degree to his feelings - must be his cousin, Stephen Elliott, a 12-year-old orphan.
