It propels him on a world-wide search that culminates with the discovery that dormant, great, elder beings who seeped to Earth before humanity's dawn are stirring in their sleep and will rise to re-exert their dominion over the world at the expense of humans and their civilization.

This collection of Lovecraft tales was assembled in honour of the antiquarian, Randolph Carter. His story is one of horror, dreams and nightmarish encounters in dimensions beyond reality.

FNH Audio presents a complete and unabridged reading of H.P. Lovecraft's famous story "At the Mountains of Madness". The story is related by one of the two survivors from a polar expedition. Unlike other polar explorers who may have died from cold, starvation or simply getting lost, in this story things are somewhat different.The survivor is desperate to prevent a new polar expedition because there are "beings" there, strange murderous beings.

The story revolves around a young man who becomes obsessed with an abandoned crypt. Originally built to house the members of a powerful local family, the crypt was abandoned after a fire consumed the family’s home and compelled them to move away. Despite living in the local area and having an entirely different surname, the narrator of the story claims some spurious relation to the powerful family. With this obsession ingrained he starts to spend his nights loitering outside the crypt and dreaming up ways of gaining access.

A large-scale and much publicized expedition to Antarctica is about to take place. While excitement runs high in the scientific community over this expedition, one geologist tries his hardest to stop the trip from ever happening. This is because William Dyer has been to Antarctica on an expedition before and knows of the unspeakable horrors that lie in its frigid terrain.

The inevitable is understood by each and every one of us who faces the final calling. So too are the effects on those left behind. The memories are there but the empty space, the void can never be refilled. It remains a dark, unreliable pit of loneliness. The sadness and often depression, the lack of will to continue may swamp us all. Unquenchable, undeniable. But loss can, after mourning, give the opportunity to reappraise the lost and how we can each move forward. In the literary world an accessible balance can be given.
