Adam and Callie live in a world recovering from devastating plagues that have killed billions. In their rigid society everyone must be ranked as Leet, Mid or Sub. As High Leets, they enjoy all the privileges that this superior rank can offer. But something is terribly wrong. A scandal is breaking that implicates their famous father, Professor Richard Stillman, in an unthinkable crime: the fabrication of human beings, the Frankenstein monsters of the 21st century. Now Adam and Callie are beginning to wonder about their long-dead brother, David. Was he a victim of the Mardi virus? Or was he a failed experiment?

Callie and Adam, once unquestioned members of the elite class, now find that they must strive to protect the very society that rejects them as fabricants - manufactured genetic beings.
