Hi, my name is Ben Robson, I'm a professional FX trader, public speaker and leadership guru. I have just written Currency Kings- a book about how some of the greats in currency trading have made billions, using differing styles, techniques and products. My hope is to inspire budding traders to trade with a plan and with discipline, to avoid making elementary mistakes and to come out on top. It can be done! Here are my predictions for 2018 (written on Jan 6, 2018) Interest rates, Equities, Currencies, Gold, Oil, Bitcoin, Emerging markets. My view is that as interest rates (borrowing costs) start to rise and we start to quantitatively "unease" then markets too will start to normalize. I'm not a US equity market bull. I see significant risks to the downside for equities and feel that the Dow, S&P and Nasdaq will all falter this year and close lower. I prefer Macron and Merkel over May, and Trump over Trudeau. Canada (and its property boom) in my view will suffer greatly from higher interest rates. So If I had to pick out a currency I'd be long EUR over GBP and CAD. Similarly Indian rupee (which delivered a 12% return on a non-leveraged basis remains my carry trade of choice. I remain bullish emerging markets. Oil (for all its manipulations) will in my view trade lower and gold ( a store of value, medium of exchange and a commodity in physical demand) will trade higher. Bitcoin euphoria will peter out as volatile movements kill off the last retail speculators. It then becomes a race to the exits and will trade much lower.
