C. A. W. Parker loves the work of Arthur Conan Doyle, Raymond Chandler and P. G. Wodehouse above perhaps all others. Looking back, The Detective of Last Resort series is essentially a naive attempt to capture something of those authors' magic (very inadequately) in a series of private detective mysteries set in the unglamorous corners of old England (why should London have all the fun?). The result is a series of 'cosy noir' mysteries, with occasional laughs, starring Rusty Macduff, the private investigator people turn to in the golden age of crime when all others have rejected them. They have been described as "wonderfully witty", "page-turners" and "awful". He has another story in the series you can download if you join his mailing list at at cawparker dot com, which is optimistically designed to keep you up to date on his work, but realistically mostly used to wish you Merry Christmas.
