Christine Figgener, born in 1983 in Germany, studied biology in Tübingen and Würzburg and earned her PhD in marine biology from Texas A&M University. Together with her husband and dog Fiona, she lives in Costa Rica, where she has been researching sea turtles and fighting to protect them since 2007. She is a leading expert on sea turtle science and conservation and founded the conservation organization COASTS (www.coasts-cr.org) and the consultancy Nāmaka Conservation Science. When she isn't writing or chasing sea turtles, she swims as @seaturtlebiologist through the vast expanses of the internet.
