Christine Hopfgarten is originally from Germany, but has lived in the UK for half of her life. She learnt about the powerful effects therapy can have, as well as how fascinating the mind is, very early in life. Since then, she has been on a quest to find new ways, and to refine those ways she already has, of understanding and helping individuals with their psychological suffering, conflicts and problems. She deeply cares about how she affects those she works with and her readers, and continues to be fascinated by the transformation individuals can go through on a psychological level. As a psychotherapist working for the London Fire Brigade and the UK National Health Service and in private practice, she has heard the unique stories of many who have experienced a variety of losses. She has helped many to process what has happened to them and find their personal resolution and way forward. Her early postgraduate studies include psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural therapy, and she has since specialized in a more relational approach, including training in dynamic interpersonal therapy and trauma-focused therapy, especially EMDR (eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing). As a therapist, she believes that it is important to deeply engage on a relational and emotional level – to help people understand the connections and causes of their difficulties – while also using ample practical and structured interventions and exercises to help individuals deal with their problems. She trusts that the best approach to help you resolve your struggles and to help you achieve happiness and contentment is to draw on evidence-based therapies and psychological models, while also focusing on and attuning to what makes one unique and different.
