The author spent a considerable portion of his youth living in Japan and misunderstanding the Japanese. It's not totally his fault though (just ask him), he feels the Japanese misunderstood him quite equally. In writing this book he projects many of those misunderstandings upon his fictional characters who are helpless to speak out in their own defense. The author is a third-degree black belt in judo who studied abroad in Japan in both high school and college. After graduating from Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania, the author returned to Japan where he worked for five years and continued to study judo. After returning to America, the author worked for the LAPD for 24 years from where he retired as the Commanding Officer of Southeast (Watts) Division. The author is now a rural, mountain county Undersheriff where he happily goes to work with his dogs for company.
