Cindy Girman is founder and leader of a consulting firm that works with pharmaceutical companies on ways to generate more efficient and meaningful evidence on how medicines work. She holds a Doctor of Public Health in biostatistics with emphasis in epidemiology from University of North Carolina (UNC) and is a fellow of the International Society of Pharmacoepidemiology. Cindy and her husband are collaborating with researchers at UNC on non-pharmacological transcranial alternating current stimulation of the brain as a treatment for substance use disorder, a keen interest of theirs. Cindy and Tom enjoy travel, especially safari and exotic bird watching, and spending time with friends and family. The author was raised in western North Carolina, and she and Tom split their time between the coast and mountains. Their son Alec was raised in Raleigh and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His passion was computer coding and he had a coding job for a year before he passed away on October 20, 2021 at 22 years of age. They are incredibly proud of their daughter Vera, a fashion photographer and art director for photoshoots. 50% of the proceeds from this book are directed to research on more effective treatments for addiction; the other half to increasing sales to increase the donations made.
