Heather Safire is an author, songwriter and musician, best known for her novel The One O’Clock Wars, a satire about the disturbingly real military exploits of a particularly cunning housecat. Her short stories include The Museum and Temple Complex of the Second Glorious Reign, a near-future fantasy about a genetically engineered philosopher king, and The Upanishad of Greg, a modern day fable about a “loser jerk” who, appropriately, gets lost in the countryside of India. She is originally from Los Angeles, California, where she spent her childhood devising largely unsuccessful ploys to avoid beach volleyball and class bullies. She studied at Yale, where she was unofficially declared the least successful member of her graduating class (without a felony conviction). She is stunningly beautiful, but there is a hideous portrait of her in the attic.
