Luca Mazzotti was born in Forlì, Italy, in 1963 to a father novelist and a mother artist. He graduated from the University of Bologna with a degree in Humanities and worked as a copywriter, researcher, screenwriter and journalist before moving to Philadelphia, U.S.A., in 1993 when he married his friend Maria - best decision he's ever made . He has been teaching Italian Culture and Language since, on and off, in area universities such as University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Drexel University. He currently teaches at Stockton University and Rowan College, both in New Jersey. His passion for wine took him on a journey with no clear destination but through many different professional stops, from the academy (he has been awarded certifications and diplomas from the Wine and Spirits Trust, the Guild of Master Sommeliers and the Society of Wine Educators), to the commerce (between 2000 and 2012 he was president of West Park Imports, a fine wine importing company serving seven states). He was also a wine educator (Italian Culinary Institute of NYC and the Restaurant School of Philadelphia) and the wine editor for the New York-based publications "The Magazine of La Cucina Italiana" and "Italian Cooking and Living". "The Myth of Wine" is his first book on the subject, a creative experience that began two decades ago and saw numerous revisions and updates before considered ready for publication. Today, Luca's primary occupation consists in homeschooling his children, Lawrence 15, and Julia 12, both promising athletes and outstanding students. In his spare time, the author is an avid sports fan (and certified soccer and field hockey coach), history buff, science lover, watch collector and poker player.
