Before realising he'd rather write books instead of code, Richard spent twenty years working as a software engineer. During this time, Richard also spent time as a perpetual GM, running a variety of tabletop roleplaying games. After writing his first book, Fire in the North, he realised that this was something he rather enjoyed doing, and went on to write a number of sequels. Now, he has branched out into other genres, making it harder for him to answer the question 'what sort of books do you write?'
