Sally is committed to supporting adoptive families. In 2011, she became a founding member of GIFT Family Services, a coaching company that assists families before, during and after adoption. She coaches families and provides seminars and presentations through GIFT Family Services. Sally also serves a Lutheran congregation in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In the summer and fall of 2015, Sally and her husband were awarded a Lilly Foundation Clergy Renewal Grant to study the effects of trauma and how the church can help bring hope, healing and wholeness to people’s lives. Her studies influenced new practices in the congregation she serves and changed her personally. Sally has a better understanding of the complex tasks that are set before adoptees and advocates for family preservation and adoption-aware parenting. She is married to Dan. They have three adult children, all of whom were received through adoption. And we cannot forget her cat of 13 years, Honey! Sally authored, "Why Am I Sad? Living with Loss in Foster Parenting," Fostering Families Today magazine, March/April 2019 and is co-author of "Reimagining Adoption: What Adoptees Seek from Families and Faith," June, 2019.
