Tammie Robie never thought she’d be an author, but life has a funny way of surprising us. A dedicated runner and Computer Technology teacher by day, Tammie spent nearly two decades dealing with what seemed like an unsolvable mystery—uncontrolled hypertension and the debilitating symptoms that came with it. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t because she loved salt on everything. Her memoir, Misdiagnosed for Miles: A Competitive Runner’s Journey Through Misdiagnosis and Discovery, tells the tale of how she remained committed to chasing her marathon dreams—even when she felt far from her best. After almost 20 years of trying to lower her blood pressure with what seemed like every medication under the sun—while dealing with symptoms like low potassium, heart palpitations, and daily headaches—the case was finally cracked when it was discovered that an aldosterone-producing tumor (yes, that’s a thing) was the culprit, leading to a diagnosis of primary hyperaldosteronism—something that, thankfully, was cured with surgery. When she’s not teaching or running around (literally), Tammie enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids, and the rest of their family in New Hampshire. She is committed to sharing her story, hoping it might help someone else find their own happy ending.
