Wendy is excited to announce the upcoming release of her second book Big People Don't Pee in the Park- A Mother and Son's Journey with Down Syndrome, which will be available to order on October 3rd. October is Down syndrome Awareness month so it was important to her that this book be released during this month to help promote awareness. When Wendy became a mother to her son, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth, she was just twenty-three years old. She had very little exposure to people with Down syndrome, so she dealt with a wide range of emotions, from shock and fear to happiness in its truest form. The day Wendy became a mom she also became a Down syndrome advocate, a teacher, a student, and a warrior. She is dedicated to helping other parents move beyond the shock and fear they may be experiencing after learning of their newborns' diagnosis. She aims to inspire these parents through healing, hope, and humor. Wendy also aspires to help other women find their own strength and voice to speak up for themselves and their children. With eighteen years of volunteering for a nonprofit organization, Wendy developed strong ties to her community while offering support to families. She balanced this work with a demanding career, always maintaining focus on her most important job—raising her son. Wendy is an international best-selling author, speaker, and Down syndrome advocate. Whenever she gets the chance, she speaks openly and honestly about her experience. She is committed to highlighting the value of those with disabilities to the rest of society. She believes these individuals are our teachers, teaching courses such as compassion, kindness, forgiveness, and unconditional love. To learn more about Wendy, visit her website wendylhooton.com
