Summary

Over the past few years, Brianna Wiest has gained renown for her deeply moving, philosophical writing. This new compilation of her published work features pieces on why you should pursue purpose over passion, embrace negative thinking, see the wisdom in daily routine, and become aware of the cognitive biases that are creating the way you see your life.

Some of these pieces have never been seen; others have been read by millions of people around the world. Regardless, each will leave you thinking: This idea changed my life.

Easy listening

The narrator has a very easy to listen to voice. The life tips in this book are exactly that. Life tips, many ideas and encouragement to get you through and ease your mindset.

I Persevered and was Glad

This book reads like one list after another. At first I was very put off by it but I persevered. I didn't agree with all of the content but I'm glad I persevered with the book until the end. There were lots of positives I took away from the book but I suspect a re-read might be better done with a physical version and a highlighter pen.

Insightful and useful

Despite some negative reviews I thought it a good listen, I liked the list, making sure the points were concise and digestible.
Ironically those who didn’t like this book should listen again and absorb!!!

A big list of advise. Gave up. Sadly

Nice advise I. Very annoying lists not essays. Wise words but too many numbers
Shame.

A list of advice

The advice is alright, there are some good things in it. However it’s just a ten hour list of tips, with a lot of repetition. The same advice was given, over and over with a couple of new examples. It was also revealing to hear that 3 of the 20 things that show you’re doing better than you think were around having a job and enough money to support yourself. Not everyone has that and it doesn’t mean they’re doing terribly as a person!

underwhelming.

Although some of the concepts were thought provoking, this book feels like more of a lecture, do this thing, don't do that thing, successful people do this thing. It has with very little science or factual basis to back it up and no practical tips on 'how' to do the thing, its more like getting advice from a wise old aunt! By all means read it if youre intrigued but in my opinion it's not life changing.

If you want to change your life

I couldn’t recommend this book higher to anyone. I loved the calming voice of the narrator, the advice taken away from the essays was life changing and as the title would suggest made me change the way I think.
