About the Author
Sarah Small wrote the first draft of her memoir, "A Sea of Lego & Lavender a memoir of love, madness and rising from the ashes," in one month’s time in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia on a writer’s retreat in 2013. It took just over ten years for her to get to a point of lasting reestablished mental health stability. She seized that moment to revise, finalize and share her story.
She hopes sharing her story will lessen the stigma of mental illness, lessen the mental health struggles of others, and improve mental health inpatient trauma-inducing treatment protocols. Sarah advocates for increasing empathy to restore patients’ dignity and autonomy especially during psychosis and crisis.
