Summary

With a pet pageant around the corner and a killer unleashed, Lacy will have to collar the culprit before the claws come out. Julie Chase is back with her fourth delightful Kitty Couture mystery, perfect for fans of Rita Mae Brown and Blaize Clement.

Lacy Marie Crocker can hardly believe it's been a year since her return home to New Orleans. There hasn't been a dull moment since opening her pet boutique last summer, and thanks to the popularity of Lacy's organic pet treats and the arrival of the National Pet Pageant, Lacy desperately needs some help before she is overrun by the demand for pupcakes and crinolines.

The entire Garden District seems to be counting the minutes until opening night of the pet pageant, and everything is going spectacularly until Viktor Petrov, the pageant emcee, takes a spill from the balcony during dress rehearsal. All signs points to murder, and homicide detective Jack Oliver sets his eyes on Eva Little, one of Lacy's committee sisters and the only other person on the balcony at the time of the fall, as the killer. But when it comes out that Viktor was notoriously rude, the doors blow wide open with potential suspects who could have wanted him dead.

Lacy is determined to find the killer and exonerate Eva, but when Lacy receives a mysterious warning - a plush kitty from Lacy's shop with its mouth crudely stitched over - it's clear that she's been found first. Full of killer recipes for your pet, Cat Got Your Crown is Julie Chase's uproarious fourth Kitty Couture mystery.

Worthy of a crown

I enjoyed this cozy mystery. This is the fourth in the series and the idea of dressing up your pets still fascinates and boggles the mind. Although the picture the author creates makes it easy to imagine, just not on my cat if I want any fingers left. The characters are once again colourful, like able ( I even came to like the bossy and overbearing mother in this instalment) and maybe the love triangle is finally resolved. The mystery kept me guessing with plenty of suspects and some strange goings on. I love the fact the series is set in New Orleans because it seems that anything can happen and with this character it usually does, where else does the heroine have to run from stampeding bulls?
The National Pet Pageant has finally arrived in New Orleans and Lacy is rushed off her feet seeing to all the costume dramas and helping her mother run the show without a hitch. The MC falling off the balcony throws a bit wrench into the works. Was it an accident or was he pushed? Not only do they need to come up with a big enough venue to hold all the pets and there entourage but also stop a fellow committee member from being arrested. The man wasn't well liked but can Lacy get to the bottom of why somebody would want him dead? But somebody doesn't want her investigating, besides her family and friends and she receives a number of threats. The show must go on and so does Lacy Crocker.
I like the narrator, she never caused you a problem with telling the characters apart and even did some interesting accents.

Ok

These stories are a bit cheesy, but I think this is deliberate. It is a relief to listen to something that isn't smutty or suggestive.

I Really Don’t Like Lacey!

I’ve reached this far and have definitely concluded that the main character is written in such a way that makes me despise her immensely! I’ve read them all thus far and have guessed the protagonists for the last two - not necessarily because they were easily deduced, but because it made sense.

What doesn’t make sense, is how stupid the main character is written. I can’t see how that would make her endearing for anyone! If there’s another episode in this series, I shan’t be reading it. The only upside to this is the narrator, Brittany Pressley . She’s very adept at the various voices. Kudos to her.

Decent nonsense but good narration.

A comfy murder mystery, all fuzzy and warm. I usually listen to more grittier crime drama but this was a pleasant diversion. Do people really live these kind of lives? The narrator has a nice North American accent that doesn't grate.
