About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
An honest, end-of-career autobiography from widely adored Harlequins and England rugby star Danny Care
They say everything happens for a reason, and I think my life is proof of that. There have been a series of moments, some of them tough setbacks, that have proved over time to be pivotal to the person – and player – I am today. There was the time when my dreams of a football career came to an abrupt end but opened the door for rugby in my life; the ill-judged sledging outing that may have cost me the opportunity to go on a Lions tour; the times when my name made the headlines for the wrong reasons; the choice I made to miss an England tour, which led to meeting the love of my life on a party island halfway across the world; and the devastating moment when Eddie Jones dropped me from the England squad and I thought my international career was over.
I sometimes wondered if it was meant to be but I kept on smiling and I worked hard as I kept my focus on playing the game that I love, that I owe everything to. And now, a little older and a little wiser – and with over 100 England caps, three Six Nations championships and two Premiership titles to my name, I want to tell you my story. The highs and lows, the good and the bad and everything in between.

Ripped through this
Despite all the headlines about Eddie Jones this book has brought forward, the back story is better value than that - yes, it's probably aimed at Quins fans, but many a rugby fan will enjoy the story and the journey, too. There seems to be a theme in all the autobiographies I have read in recent years... tricky getting into teams, often sporting youth aimed in different directions, poor training facilities, weird coaching standards and practices and multiple rows around puerile behaviour and drink and the despising of the press, oh and the pay really rarely compensates in comparison to other sports - and this book has some of that too, but I found another layer - a more human touch to this story and a lot of honesty. I positively ripped through it (to be fair, it's not that long) and enjoyed more for the romp through it as the story unfolds quickly - if there is a rugby fan in the household, they will no doubt enjoy this - the trials and tribulations and revelations for rugby folks of a certain age who lived through all this will thoroughly enjoy.

honest, humble and an all round good lad.
being a yorkshire man I always loved danny care anyway. knowing he was only 20 miles away as a youngster and I played on his home boyhood pitch many many times, all be it 4 years later. only makes me like him more. a wonderfully honest book from a true stalwart of the game. the true meaning of "old reliable"

Warts and all revelations!
I love the honesty in his books. No punches held back and felt like DC pours out how he really feels about his rugby career and everything in it. I really enjoyed this and if you are a rugby fan you will too. I was so engaged in it I smashed the book in 3 days ( I do have a super long commute to work which means I have time!)
