Summary

He must master the wolf within....

Edinburgh, 1820. Thirty years after leaving Scotland, Drew Nicol is forced to return when the skeleton of a monster is found. The skeleton is evidence of werewolves - evidence that Marguerite de Carcassonne, the leader of Drew’s pack, is determined to suppress.

Marguerite insists that Drew accompany her to Edinburgh. There, they will try to acquire the skeleton while searching for wolf hunters - wolf hunters who may be holding one of their pack prisoner.

But Drew has reason to be wary about returning to Edinburgh - Lindsay Somerville now lives there.

Lindsay who taught Drew about desire and obsession.

Lindsay who Drew has never been able to forgive for turning him.

Lindsay who vowed to stay away from Drew 12 years ago...and who has since taken drastic steps to sever the bond between them.

Marguerite's plan will throw Drew and Lindsay together again - and into a deadly confrontation with Lindsay’s enemy, Duncan MacCormaic. They will be tested to their limits and forced to confront both their past mistakes and their true feelings.

But it may be too late for them to repair the damage of the past. The consequences of Lindsay’s choices are catching up with him, and he’s just about out of time.

Amazing ending to a fabulous Duet!

Once again I have no idea why this underrated masterpiece gets the bad review score! As a continuation of the first story told in Gentelman wolf we see growth of every single one of the characters albeit slowly. The suspense is real, the payoff brilliant and a happy ending with bittersweet notes. I love this universe and would gladly gulp down any more novels to come!
As to the narration: Hamish McKinleigh could do no wrong. Honestly hands down the best audiobook narrator in my opinion: the accents believable, voices so different for every character that I have no difficulty figuring out who is who. his intonations are perfect and I can hear genuine emotion in his voice for the scenes that require it. I realy hope he does more audiobooks because I could listen to him all day (I do as the matter of fact I finished these books in 2 days).

Gold Medal Narration

🎧 Hamish McKinlay delivered another flawless performance! His Scots accent was gorgeously musical; his pacing made everything moody and atmospheric; and his vocal portrayals were perfect.

📚 Master Wolf was Drew’s POV. In comparison to Lindsay, Drew came off as dour and intractable. My interest waned. Then Ms. Chambers pulled the rabbit from the magic hat at the 70% mark - the denouement was so distinctive, the implications of their bond so crystal clear that I gasped!! It made the emotional journey worth it and Lindsay’s sacrifices so gut-wrenching. I detracted a star from the story because the narrative shifts between past and present day didn't disguise a thin plot and Drew's one note characterisation. Regardless, the Capital Wolves Duet was an epic romance with uniquely elegant werewolves and l adored it!!
