About this listen

The Gods are dead. In their absence, there can be only chaos, only war. And they are not all that has faded from the world of Verda...

Once there were heroes. Brave men and women who showed their quality to be above the rest. Those whose deeds earned them the heart of a dragon. Those whose courage and strength resonated with the unborn, who, in their eggs, can wait thousands of years for a warrior worthy of them.

These heroes rose up on young battlefields and defended the weak and oppressed across all of Erador. They did so because they were inspired. They had only to look up and see.

Dragons Riders!

The last noble warriors in the realm. Only heroes can embolden the ordinary. For centuries, millennia, the Dragon Riders galvanized generation after generation, adding Riders to their ranks and birthing dragons from their eggs.

But there are no more heroes. War with the Andarens is like nothing the Riders, nor the armies of Erador, have ever faced. In the place of heroes, there are only soldiers now. Fodder for the machine of war.

This time of twilight is set to be the crowning hour of the dark when the light is losing its grip. There are those who have been waiting, biding their time in the shadows while the heroes of Verda die out. They worship something ancient, something forgotten by myth and legend, something evil.

It falls on a few to keep back that darkness. A few who must rise without inspiration and prove themselves worthy.

The reading was great from start to finish

The energy that the book is read in was fantastic each character had their own voice. I don’t mean they had different accents (they did) but the narrator gave each character there own personality so it was easy to feel for each one or to dislike a villain

An intruiging prequel.

It took me roughly to chapter 13 to get in to this book. I wasn't able to remember what was going on, partly due to the jumping timeliness and character teams and partly the story itself. I love Quaintrell as an author and his series on Erador os a particular favourite go to. I didn't have a problem with the 3 books about the Ramger and I was absorbed instantly.
Once I pieced things together I started to enjoy the book. It has the humour from the dwarves and the general challenges set to keep a quick pace. It's obviously designed as a stand alone series but relates to Erador and the dragons, explaining where they came from and how the dragon riders lived in the past. This had been hinted at in the last of the books with Knights of Erador.
I love Steven Brand as a narrator and could listen to him all day.
Looking forward to the next in the series.

I loved this book, it took a bit of time with the separate stories but by the end it all came together, can't wait for the next book. Great narrator.
