Summary

Gavin is creating a unique 'holiday experience’ - every facility any tourist who hates going abroad will ever want will all be available on a converted North Sea oil rig.

To test the facilities, he's hosting a reunion for his old school friends. He is so busy showing off that he doesn't notice that another group have invited themselves along - a collection of terrorist mercenaries who are occasionally of more danger to themselves than to the public.

Performance lacking skill

It seems unlikely that the production company couldn’t have found a voice actor capable of reproducing at least a half-believable northeastern English accent.

story funny but accents questionable

I love Christopher Brookmyre novels and Angus King usually does a good job verbally retelling his stories but this one had me laughing at his pish poor attempt at a Geordie accent. Alright if you can see the funny side and look past this faux paus 😄

Great book!

Angus Kings struggle with a Geordie accent did not take anything away from this book for me. Great book, very funny, and King is a great reader. recommended.

Slow start but stick with it!

This should be a film! Gripping story with the only disappointment being that it ends so abruptly.

"Pirates, boats and booty."

Simply brilliant.
It took a little while to initially acclimatise. to Angus King's brisk Scottish accent, but his performance was excellent, painting a vivid picture with Brookmyre's scintillating text, with each protagonist - and there are many - a fully formed character in his or her own right.

I always enjoy Brookmyre's books and this is one of his best. Five stars to author and narrator. Highly recommended

Good story despite so many characters

I almost abandoned at first due to the heavy Scottish accent (English is not my mother tongue) but then I put the speed at 0,85 and I could follow. I also had to look at the list of characters on the Wikipedia page of the book to remember who is who. But once in the story I enjoyed the ride. I'm glad I went through with it.

A fantastic book - let down by Ausible

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great story, well engineered, keeps you
reading

Who was your favorite character and why?

Has to be Ally, although Mtt and Simone + Vale are worthy of a mention

Have you listened to any of Angus King’s other performances? How does this one compare?

He reads well. Its not the voice that I thought of when I read the books, but he adds to my pleasure - an alternative view

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh

Any additional comments?

Audible have lost the last section of the book - pathetic!

Awesome

Out there but fun. Great humour and one liners a plenty. Smiled all the way through. Great usual narrator.
