About this listen
There is a plot to kidnap Queen Victoria and only Sherlock Holmes can stop it...or can he?
Investigating a crime seemingly unconnected to the Royal Family, Holmes & Watson uncover a conspiracy to kidnap Queen Victoria and destabilise the British Empire.
With a ticking clock to her next public engagement, Holmes and Watson must discover who is behind the plot and locate her majesty, while Mycroft tries to keep the monarch’s disappearance a secret from the British people.
At first, Holmes believes Moriarty is responsible for the abduction, but when the Napoleon of Crime is proved innocent, Holmes must work with his arch-nemesis to rescue the Queen.

A welcome return to the gaslight
Following a promise to myself to write reviews I humbly submit this one. Not because I believe that I'm great at writing or that I have a titillating and thrilling style, but simply because when choosing books to purchase (especially ones that I have no former knowledge of) I read the reviews and they help me to make up my mind. Indeed, that was the case with this book "The Voice of Treason" so here goes.
First the story. Queen Victoria has been kidnapped but by who and how was it done? Enter Holmes and Watson to grab the reins and traverse the mire to find out. The story has several strands, one seemingly having nothing to do with the overall plot but they all come together in the end giving it a grand feel, a touch of near A C Doyle genius I felt. There is action, drama and despite one review I read the scenes play out well and all a relevant and unhurried and not too long as the reviewer thought, this adds suspense in places and keeps the story ticking at a good pace. I was entranced till the end. When it did actually finish I was disappointed but not with the ending, just at the fact that the book had indeed finished.
Second the performances. I read some reviews that mentioned that some voices sounded the same and this added confusion, I thought that the one or 2 instances of this but the credits mentioned that the parts of one were played by different actors and as these were related I believe this was deliberately done to suggest familial kinship. the other to be honest I overlook as it didn't really bother me that much.
Holmes is superb, I am a great fan of the original stories and the audiobook performed by Stephen Fry who did a fantastic job and this Holmes stands beside him. I believed him absolutely and sincerely hope to hear more of him in this part and will also be searching for other books read by this actor.
Despite some reviews I did not find Watson wooden,. his solid approach and rich voice ( what else would you expect from KHS) is exactly what conjures Watson in my mind. There are other notable performances such as Moriarty (just brilliant) and the anarchist, most are brilliant but to pay some would give away the story.
in conclusion I recommend this story to fans and new readers of the characters alike and sincerely hope that another story featuring the voice talents of Nicolas Bolton & Kobnaa Holbrook-Smith comes out soon.
Grab you hat, deerstalker and your courage and step into the gaslight. it's worth it. 5 Stars

Very enjoyable
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Very atmospheric. Think I prefer Kobna’s PC Grant to his Dr.Watson but a great listen.

Excellent
Loved it! Superbly crafted. Moriarty returns and creates havoc once more, but in the spirit of avoiding spoilers, has he turned over a new leaf?

Sadly disappointing...
I'm a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, and pretty much all detective and thriller stories, but this one felt pretty lacking and hollow. The plot wasn't particularly exciting, and the characters lacked depth; after 8 hours of listening, I didn't feel empathy for any of them. Sound effects were basic, and the noise made at the transition between scenes became jarring after a while. I wanted to like this audiobook but think it fell short of the mark. Disappointing.

Oh, for Michael Williams
Nearly finished this and there are some praiseworthy aspects. The story is imaginative and interesting and the sound and aural effects are good. However, It is very 'wordy' and feels like it's written as a radio play with people explaining what they see or where they are in quite a unnatural way. There are many characters with some actors sounding similar so the listener does have to pay attention. The actor playing Watson though appears miscast. For such a central character he needed far more gravitas or depth. I give the wonderful Michael Williams or Andrew Sachs as examples. This Watson is irritating to a great degree, Holmes, however, is fine. Well acted, bombastic, superior and driven, he is all he should be. It's worth a listen but its not Conan Doyle.

Plot twist
The way that it flipped the story on its head was well thought out but was somewhat anticlimactic
