Summary

Ahren: Ahren's life consists of being beaten up by his drunkard father or bullied by the village lads. But at the annual suitability tests for apprenticeships, the young boy finds himself selected by Falk, the guardian of the forest, to be his apprentice and his world is turned upside down.

From his new master, he learns the skills of archery and how to fight the Dark Ones. And then, on the day of the Spring Ceremony, there is another unexpected turn of events. He touches the Stone of the Gods and it illuminates for the first time ever. It isn't long before a cantankerous wizard turns up and urges Falk and Ahren into action.

The Naming: Two Einhans have been found but the third is still at large. Time is of the essence. Ahren's Appointment as the 13th Paladin - assisted by the three Einhans - must occur by the winter solstice. If not, He, Who Forces will awaken before his time and plunge the unprepared peoples of Jorath into the depths of darkness.

The Brazen City: The saga of the 13th Paladin continues. Join him and his friends on their adventures in the Sunplains and enjoy meeting his old friends in Deepstone again.

Note: This audiobook includes Books 1-3 in the 13th Paladin series.

A fascinating tale, reminiscent of a dungeons and dragons adventure

I loved the progression of Ahrens evolution from a young abused boy to a youth growing in confidence and skill. A heartwarming story of good triumphing over evil. It’s also good to see heroes mess up occasionally. I didn’t like the feeling that future stories of the search for paladins will probably run out of steam and become same old same old! I have seen this quite a lot with epic sagas and it’s always a bit of a let down. I hope future stories of Ahrens adventures don’t go down this route.

Great value, great books

Really good series, nicely narrated and good pace. Not a series I’d heard of before but I will get the rest

Great story, great characters and well told.

Enjoyed these - found myself attached to the characters and kept me entertained in the car - enjoyed the narrators interpretation.

Surprisingly good

I wasn’t expecting much considering it’s on the plus catalog but these books are actually really good. For anyone who loves TLOR then I think you’d really enjoy these books. Just be warned that you’ve then got to buy the rest of the series which is a bit annoying.

Amazing

Just finished the 3rd book of the set, and enjoyed the series immensely. I was tentative about starting the set but got drawn into the world following Ahren though his journey.

Storyline

A very good story line that runs.very well it's a little slow at the beginning but the steps up to being interesting and pulls you into the story well worth a listen

Very good audio book - can’t wait for next in the series

Liked the storyline very much, also the way it developed into a deeper tale with historical elements. Liked the inclusion of an animal which partners every Paladin. Liked the fact that sometimes characters died which made it more realistic.
The only reason not grafting it 5 stars is that the lead character constantly asked too many questions which made him irritating at times.. Also his continuing hesitation and excessive reflection became tiresome by the third book.
Very good overall though, and I look forward to the next t book in the series.

Great but not perfect

fantastic series, but too much plot armour and action and not enough world building. however, will finish this series for sure!
