Peter V. Brett
About this listen
Peter V. Brett, Sunday Times bestselling author of The Demon Cycle, begins a brand new epic fantasy adventure set in his beloved world, following a new generation of heroes.
Fifteen years have passed since the demons were destroyed. Heroes have become legend, and those that remain live in their shadows.
Olive, Princess of Hollow, has her entire life planned out—a steady march toward succession. But the more her mother writes the script, the more Olive rails against playing the parts she is assigned.
Darin is the son of the man people say saved the world. Everyone expects greatness from Darin, but the only thing he’s ever been great at is hiding.
But now it’s time to fight the darkness.
When Olive and Darin step across the wards one night, they learn that the demons are not all gone, and those that remain hunger for revenge.
Are Darin and Olive ready to be heroes?

‘Epic in scale and emotionally intimate, it delivers immaculate world-building, complex politics – both sexual and social, and propulsive, edge-of-the-seat plotting. Settle down for a feast of turns, twists, [and] magic’
DAILY MAIL
‘Peter Brett takes the reader with him and his characters on an electric and unrelenting charge through the demon-haunted depths of the Warded universe, full of love and death’
Naomi Novik, Sunday Times bestselling author of UPROOTED
‘An intricately crafted tale of intrigue and courage where one’s station and lineage determines everything, good and bad. An exciting read. Peter Brett has outdone himself with this first book in a new series.’
#1 New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks
‘The Desert Prince is a class act. Wonderful storytelling, flawed and believable characters and a ratcheting of tension that has you reading well into the dark hours. This is a must read’
John Gwynne, author of Malice
‘The Desert Prince is a deeply intimate, yet epic adventure. Heart-wrenching, smart, and modern, this book kept me wide-eyed and wide awake for many-a-nights as I struggled step-for-step alongside Olive and Darin from the green lands to the desert pits to the darkest recesses of the demon minds. The Desert Prince has set a new standard for fantasy.’
Wesley Chu, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the War Arts Saga
‘THE DESERT PRINCE is the work of a master at the top of his game. The new cast of would-be heroes instantly draw you into a world full of old dangers as Brett cranks up the tension to unbearable levels. If you’re going to read this book, cancel all your plans because there’s no way you’ll be able to put it down once you start. This is the best Peter V Brett book so far.’
Mike Shackle, author of WE ARE THE DEAD

Very put off by the southern drawl
trying to listen but very put off by the male narrator doing a south american accent. He sounds simple minded and bored

Beautiful.
Peter v Brett has done it again, perfectly written and a great follow up saga. I do miss Colin Mace as the narrator though.

Great carry on story
This first person dialogue was great. The characters had a depth I could relate too. From start to finish I couldn't stop listening.

character voices spoiled it
The original series is one of my favourite series of audio books. The fantasy story line in them is great and the characters were really brought to life.
When I saw a new book was being released, I was really excited to delve back into this fantasy world, but after listening to the first couple of hours, I was really disappointed.
The character voices are completely wrong. The characters who originate from Tibbets Brook have gone from an almost west country in England accent to a Southern American accent.
I dont think the voice acting is bad in this audio book, it's just completely jarring for me as a returning fan of the series.

Not the Demon Cycle but still a really great and enjoyable book.
This book is so well written its a joy to listen too. The female narrator is brilliant and though the male narrator does a really good job, his strong accent takes some time to get used to. It does not quite live up to the Demon Cycle but still well worth a listen.

absolutely fantastic
Absolutely fantastic, but if you haven't: go read the demon cycle first, starting with The Painted Man.
performance uses somewhat different accents than the first series, but once I got used to that I appreciated the skill and effort that had gone into it.
great work Peter V. Brett, and to all involved!

Character development
Time and time again I am blown away by Peter V. Brett's books. This one is no different, the magic in these books is Mr Brett's ability to bring characters to life in a way that you feel you know them as beloved friends or hated enemies. Fantastic from start to end with no lull un between. Well done sir.

Great book— Annoying narration
I am a great fan of Peter’s books and as a follow on from the “Painted man” series, the “Nightfall saga” is equally well written but for me the narrator let it down by changing the pronunciation of key names and place, it should not be difficult to listen to earlier books to maintain narrative
It didn’t prevent me from enjoying it but just a little annoying without continuity
