Summary

P. Djeli Clark returns to the historical fantasy universe of A Dead Djinn in Cairo, with the otherworldly adventure novella The Haunting of Tram Car 015.

Cairo, 1912: The case started as a simple one for the Ministry of Alchemy, Enchantments, and Supernatural Entities - handling a possessed tram car. Soon, however, Agent Hamed Nasr and his new partner, Agent Onsi Youssef, are exposed to a new side of Cairo stirring with suffragettes, secret societies, and sentient automatons in a race against time to protect the city from an encroaching danger that crosses the line between the magical and the mundane.

5 stars from me lived this magical adventure!

The narrator's voice set the scenes perfectly and the vivid descriptions allowed you to believe you too were there in these magical settings and enjoying an adventure. This story is original, witty, funny and thrilling!

This is why I can't have nice things

This is my second Dead Djinn Universe prequel and so far I am having the same experience--I enjoy the way P. Djèlí Clark writes and worldbuilding but something that just doesn't leap off the page and spark my attention.

I look at the glowing reviews that talk about the prose, characters, worldbuilding, and politics, and I find myself nodding along. Clark's words in Julian Thomas' mouth are a true delight.

Everything here tells me that I should adore these books and I absolutely have no idea why I don't. I want to, but my brain just starts sliding off and I spend the majority of the books drifting off and barely paying attention. I objectively know these are better than my subjective experience and that it's seems to be a skill issue on my part, but I'm 2/2 with the same results, so I have genuinely tried.

A great short story in the Djinn universe

The introduction of a new type of spirit was fascinating. How the author brings the whole supernatural world alive is great. And the narration on this is super.
