Engaging

This book is not my usual read at all and I was taken up by the hype but how glad am I. I couldn’t put it down and the narrator certainly added to my enjoyment. It’s hard to say more really without giving things away so I won’t except to say get it and listen. You may find it a little hard going to start with but persevere it’s well worth it.

Novel gained from being an audiobook

I really enjoyed this novel as an audiobook, and I felt it was somehow improved by hearing Molly’s voice. Sometimes with complex murder mysteries I wished I could go back and reread pertinent sections, which is more tricky within an audiobook - I never felt this. Lauren Ambrose did a great narrating job, nothing ever jarred, and she didn’t try to do accents. Or I didn’t notice them being bad, which can be a distraction! Brilliant!

Over-rated

The audiobook started quite well, but there were long periods of tedium, and unnecessary fluff.
The main part of the story itself was not believable, although I liked the way some of the characters developed.
Others however were formulaic, predictable and saccharine.
If you like happy endings in which every loose end is tidied up, and it all turns out ok in the end, this is for you.
I found it cloying, far-fetched, frequently dull and plodding.

easy listening

I bought because of the reviews and was not disappointed. An insight into the autistic mind although that will vary. Loved Molly and just wanted her to find happiness. ❤

A pleasure to read from start to finish

Having read the great reviews on this book, I thought I'd give it a go and it was even better than I expected. The characters are a delight and the story is gentle. It lets you discover things slowly rather than run you over with fact after fact. Molly the maid is obviously somewhere on the spectrum scale, although this is never confirmed just alluded to. Her character would be slightly annoying otherwise but once you have discovered this, she opens up a whole new world and this is where the dark humour comes in. We can clearly see what is unfolding but Molly (who sees the world through different eyes) cannot.
The book is enhanced by the narration which is brilliant. Lauren Ambrose is from New England and has a clipped way of speaking. She has exaggerated this to enhance Molly's character and it works brilliantly.
Don't read this if you are a fan of crime novels and expect fast paced action with twists but please read it if you want to lose yourself in a lovely story and discover what goes on behind the doors of the Regency Grand Hotel.

Nice

Nice story, well narrated very simple, definitely not gritty - more like a single TV a episode than movie potential
Felt a little padded out with nice extended happy endings especially the last hour waiting for some sort of plot twist.
Thoroughly enjoyable

A gripping read - Molly Maid is a unique heroine

I really enjoyed this audio book and will miss Molly Maid. She is quirky and interesting and the plot’s twists and turns had me riveted. Plus the backdrop of a grand NY hotel was escapism at its very best. Highly recommended.

An enjoyable story

Molly the Hotel Maid is an unassuming and overlooked young woman with an obsession for cleaning. She finds herself alone in a world where she struggles to understand the motives and emotions of those around her. After the death of an important guest she is suddenly thrust into the spotlight as a possible suspect, but along the way she also finds friendship and an ability to set things right. A charming story, simply written and beautifully narrated but with insightful observations about the nature of truth and friendship.
